Chapter 21; The Governor

My breathing was erratic and I could feel my heart beating out of my chest. A bead of sweat ran down my hairline.

"What do you want?" I asked this Merle, trying to stall him until Glenn or Maggie comes out.

"Oh me? Nothin, but the Governor does. So that means you have to come with me." His raspy voice mumbled, clearly showing his southern accent.

"Who the h*ll is that?" I asked as I moved a little towards the door.

"You'll see when I drive you there." He said as he switched his weight from his one foot, to the other.

"I'm not going anywhere with you. I have a big group inside, and when they find out that you took me; their gonna kill you." I lied, clearly not convincing him because he just laughed.

"I'm shaking in my boots. Come on now, sugar tits. Don't make this hard on ole' Merle." He stepped a few feet closer to me.

I whipped out my gun and yelled as loud as I could for Glenn. I didn't even care if any biters heard me. Mabey, if they did hear me, it would allow me to escape from Merle.

He held his hand and his sword/arm up in surrender.

"Easy now, princess. Put that thing down, and we can talk this out calmly." He tried to entice me but a wasn't falling for anything.

Glenn and Maggie came rushing out of the building. Charlie followed and ran to my side. He gave a threatening growl towards Merle.

"Merle Dixon?"Glenn asked in surprise like he had known this guy once before.

"Well if it isn't the little Chinese kid." Merle snarled with his hands still in the air.

"He's Korean!" Maggie and I said simultaneously, causing Merle to give a raspy chuckle.

Charlie barred his teeth at Merle, warning him to back off.

"Whatever," Merle shrugged casually, "now look, I ain't here for no trouble. Just come with me and I'll show you a safe place."

I rearranged my grip on my gun as Charlie growled louder this time.

I knew something was about to go down. I mentally prepared myself for what was about to happen.

"No, we aren't going with you. We already have a safe place." Glenn glared at Merle.

I could see something click on Merle's eyes.

"Well that's too d*mn bad!" Merle yelled and pointed his gun at Glenn. He pulled the trigger and a loud bang sounded.

Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw Glenn and Maggie duck.

My pointer finger squeezed the trigger and Merle stepped to the side quickly before the bullet could make contact with him.

Charlie launched himself on Merle causing him to drop his handgun. Charlie viciously tore at Merle's metal section of his arm.

I ran and ducked behind the car, beside Maggie.

I could hear Charlie yelp. My stomach dropped, was he hurt? Did Merle kill him?

Merle suddenly popped up beside me. I tried to shoot him again, but he whacked me on my face, between my eyes and my lips.

The hit stunned me for a minute. I could see Glenn tackle Merle. I gasped as pain filled my nose.

I turned to see Glenn and Maggie laying unconscious on the cement. Merle made eye contact with me and a devilish smirk appeared on his lips. His yellow teeth were visible through his smile.
