Chapter 21. Ring of Fire.

After Kate-Anna left, I felt alone. None of the friends I had in high school were still in Compton, if they were they were married with kids or in Jakes case , an addict.

I missed my OSU boys.

I guess you're at the point where you shake your head and say No, Luke. Flynn gave you drugs you don't miss him, But I do.

The fact with Flynn, he's just the distributor. He has it on hand and he makes good money at selling, but ever since he watched his girlfriend over dose and die, he won't use anymore.

I'm making excuses, aren't I?

I missed Cade & Xavier. They are such doofs, but they got me. They didn't have the same upbringing as me and I don't think they ever had a serious relationship unless their moms count.

The one who I missed the most was Davis though.

Davis always gave me shit for pissing my life away. I came from a good family and he didn't. His dad chased hoes and his mom was a single mother, bussing tables on the weekends and working full time at a doctors office just to make ends meet.

Punching in Davis' number on my phone. It rang twice before he answered. He's so predictable.

"Hello?"

"Davis, man it's been to long."

"Lucas Wesley! How the hell you been?"

"Good good. How's it there? "

"Same old. Parties, girls and I'm just the loser who stays in his room and does homework."

"Times never changed." I laughed.

"Not at all. I don't mind it much though. Me and Riley are getting pretty serious so Id just rather not go 'chasing hoes'."

"You did not just say that!" I laughed til tears rolled down my cheeks.

Davis NEVER said anything that "objectifies" women. His mother taught him how to be respectful and he was just that.

"Shut up, Lucas."

I cleared my throat. "Ok, ok. I'll stop."

"How's Compton?"

"Good. I mean it's boring as shit here, but I've gotten my own place now, and I'm working for dad's law firm."

"Working man. I would have never thought that from you." He said.

"I know, I've kind of surprised myself."

"How's everything else?"

"You mean the fact that I overdosed? Ha! That's some dumb bullshit on my part, Davis. It's odd being back here, but it's good. Kate-Anna is here and I just want to try to be with her. I got to get my shit straight though."

"I understand man. What's meant to be will be. Don't beat yourself up over it."

"It's hard not to you know."
I said.

"I know."

I heard his phone chime and he said "Well Luke, as bad as I hate to I gotta run. I've gotta go meet Riley for dinner with her parents."

"You're whipped." I said.

"You are too. You just don't see it."
And we hung up.

This were has flown by and by Wednesday night Im lying in my bed waiting for sleep to come and get me.

I should be asleep now, it's 1 am, but I can't. I need to get all of my stuff together for work tomorrow, for my visit with Dr. Schwartz, but I just lie awake listening to the lowness of my iPod in the dock playing a mix Of genres.
