kairi

"he's so absolutely useless rob!" i shouted as i rested my hands on my stomach, staring up at the grey sky. "awe, why kai?" he asked, looking over at me with a curious look. "he's like the worst person to be partnered with! he doesn't do anything! he just told me 'i'll tell you what i want and you'll put it on the doc.' like i'm not stupid you frickin' idiot." i replied.

robert frowned. "jeez, you should just tell him how you-"

"so help me rob, if you say i should just tell him how i feel, i swear. i will stick this foot up your butt." i said, holding up my small foot and pointing it. "okay, gosh sorry...do you want me to ask him?" he said, laying down next to me and our picnic blanket.

i shook my head, pulling at my hand and sliding my ring up and down my finger.

"well when we go back to school, just tell him that he needs to do the rest himself-and i'm serious kai. don't do any more work for him. or he'll just take advantage of you."

"gross, i don't think he's gay-"

"no you little weirdo. y'know what i mean." he laughed. putting his hands behind his head.

now i for sure wasn't excited to go back to school on monday. confronting people has never been my best skill. i hate it more than anything. standing in front of them and telling them that they're wrong always makes me wanna crawl up in a tiny hole and never be seen again.

"sweetie, doctor dalton sent some new medication, it's not as strong as the ones you're already using, but it should help with sleeping honey." she told me with a nod, passing me the small white medicine bottle from the paper bag.

"hm, thank you...and what about chemo?" i asked.

"he hasn't called about making a new appointment but i'll schedule it. but there hasn't been any signs of it coming back. so i just know you're gonna be fine." my mom smiled, passing me some french toast.

i smiled, thanking her. "yeah the boys told their parents and they're all really happy." i told her, remembering how roshaun's mom called me crying, saying how she was so happy for me that my hair was growing back.

"that's amazing...see, you're gonna be just fine." she ran her hands through my hair, kissing my forehead. "just make sure to take these with something in your system, and you're still taking your pills at school too?" i nodded at that.

"yeah, of course-oh! also i gotta stay after school for this pottery class, so make sure you pick maiya up earlier." i brought up with a small smile. i recently signed up for a few new groups in school. but this was the one i was most excited for.

"maiya! up and at 'em!" i shouted, looking up the staircase at her bedroom door.

"alright, love you kid," i said as i smooshed my sisters cheek with a kiss, "love you too kai, bye." she whined, pushing me off of her teasingly. "make good choices!" i shouted as she waved me off, running up her school steps.

"kairi!" my friends yelled as i walked up to their lockers. "hey freaks, i-oh hey, where's mikey?" i asked, looking around at all of them and not seeing the tall blonde. "last minute family trip, i think he'll be back next week?" alvaro said unsurely.
