why not me?
why not me?third pov
since kairi's infection was gone and he was finally able to walk on his own and stand without an awful pain going up his spine, he was set to go home.
being able to go home also meant he was able to meet mattia's parents officially for the first time.
mattia was shitting bricks when the day for kairi to come over was actually upon him.
mattia didn't know how he was gonna explain to his parents that he and kairi were just friends and nothing more.
kairi and him had only talked about it briefly, and kairi told him that he would prefer if they just stayed close friends. he didn't give mattia much of an explanation as to why but mattia just assumed that he didn't wanna try out the whole dating thing again, which kinda sucked but mattia didn't take the fact that kairi was in his life again for granted.
"maybe we should just stay at your house instead, my parents aren't even that interesting y'know?" mattia babbled once he made a turn into his neighborhood.
kairi laughed, shaking his head. "no, i wanna meet them, it would be nice to talk to them especially since they don't know much about me."
"but-"
"matti, you shouldn't be the nervous one here, right? i'm supposed to be crapping my pants, not the other way around."
mattia just nodded, gripping the steering wheel tightly as he parked in his driveway; trying to stall by acting as if he didn't know how to stop the car.
"hey, quit freaking out, if they hate me then i'll leave, alright?"
"they-they're not gonna hate you. i just don't want them to be awkward or for you to be uncomfortable, is all." mattia replied, both of them beginning to unbuckle their seatbelts and get out of the car.
"i promise you it won't be like that, as long as they don't dislike bald people then i'm fine." kairi said, making mattia let out a chuckle.
kairi smiled knowing that after that laugh he seemed pretty calm.
kairi looked great as well which was another good thing about him coming home. he had gained some weight that gave him the strength to walk and do a full push-up! kairi thought it was dumb but mattia couldn't believe it and was unbelievably happy for him.
they both got up to the doorstep, mattia shaking while reaching for his keys to open the door.
mattia might have been nervous but kairi was excited to be able to sit down and talk to mattia's parents now that they were all okay now.
mattia told kairi all about how they were talking again like parents and their child should talk, which made kairi so happy knowing that mattia was receiving the love from his parents that he really deserved.
kairi huffed once mattia 'accidentally' dropped the keys for the third time do them being there, and 'struggling' to get the key in the keyhole to turn it and get the door open. kairi groaned but instead of just standing there and wasting more time, reaching for mattia's ear to give it a good tug, making mattia let out a loud screech. "i'm about two seconds away from snatching those keys from your hand and shoving them up your-"
kairi was stopped from the rest of his sentence when the door swung open, mattia's dad standing there, looking down at his son who was still in a crouched position, and kairi whose hand was still on mattia's ear. he quickly let go once he made eye contact with mattia's dad.
"hi dad, uh...you know kairi." mattia smiled nervously, gesturing towards the shorter boy next to him.
"yes, hi kairi, it's nice to see you again, i'm giacomo." mattia's dad reached his hand out, kairi taking it and shaking it with a smile. "likewise," he replied, kicking mattia lightly to get him to stand up and go inside.
