"so you guys are dating?"
"no!"
"then why does he look at you like that!?" maiya shrieked, pointing at the taller boy sitting beside her older brother as she munched on her chicken nuggets.
"maiya...you can't say that stuff right in front of him..." kairi whispered, now embarrassed as he felt mattia looking over at him curiously.
"do you like my brother?" she finally asked, turning to look at mattia who looked like a confused puppy.
"uh...we're friends...so—yeah-"
"that's not what she means...just ignore her at this point. she's on some delusional type stuff-" kairi cut himself off by taking a sip of his fruit punch. trying to move the conversation toward something different once he finished his food.
"thanks for the food, mattia—maiya, say thank you." kairi said the last part through gritted teeth, nudging his younger sister.
"thanks, mattia!" maiya replied as she pushed the glass door open, walking out of the small mcdonald's and to the car.
the two siblings had been bored at home on a sunday, mattia texted kairi asking if he and maiya wanted to go on a little drive, and since there was nobody else home, he replied back saying why not.
"wanna come to my place for a bit...?" mattia asked as they both sat in the front of the car, kairi beside mattia in the passenger seat, his neck almost breaking to look up at the boy.
"with maiya...?" kairi asked quietly, gesturing towards her in the back seat since she was now distracted on her phone, texting away to one of her friends.
"only if she wants to come in," he shrugged, kairi gave a nod, glancing behind him, "maiya, you wanna go home or stop by mattia's place?"
"hmmm, i dunno'...are you guys gonna be flirting the whole time while we're there?" maiya asked with a smirk, making kairi roll his eyes.
"all right, you're going home." kairi said, gesturing for mattia to drive.
"i was joking! i wanna go to mattia's house!"
"no, weirdo. you're going home." kairi huffed. maiya sighed knowing that that was kairi's final answer.

"are you sure maiya couldn't have came?"
"nah, she would have been annoying...can't stand her sometimes..." kairi replied, playing around with his sweatpants strings, mattia making a right turn as he pulled into his neighborhood.
"yeah...little siblings can be a pain in the ass sometimes...her and my little brother would have probably gotten along," mattia laughed, making kairi smile.
"your brother isn't annoying though, try living with maiya just for an hour, she'll make your blood boil."
"doubt it, gianluca is like nails on a chalkboard sometimes."
kairi snorted, unbuckling his seatbelt since mattia had parked in his family's driveway.
"you're gonna have two nails on a chalkboard soon...must be a little exciting...right?" kairi asked, stepping out of the car and shutting his door, glancing over to see the now disgusted look on mattia's face.
