i care, i always care, it might not seem like it
but i do. that's my problem.

kairi

"ohhhhh, i remember you driving to my house, in the middle of the night. i'm the one who makes you laugh when you know you're 'bout to cry. and i know your favorite songs, 'nd you tell me 'bout your dreams. think i know where you belong. think i know it's with meee!"

"alejandro! shut up!" i yelled. looking over at my loud friend who had been singing his 'love' playlist on spotify for the past fifteen minutes now.

"i'm trying to keep your spirits lifted, you ass!" he yelled, i rolled my eyes. "just let the doctor take my blood pressure, jesus." i huffed, ale sighed, leaning back on his chair and folding his arms. "well i'm walking you home so don't piss me off." he told me. i smiled, "yeah whatever."

"ohhh, what up doctor dalton." ale said, holding his hand out as my doctor walked into my hospital room. both of them doing this weird handshake that they did everytime they saw one another.

"hey alejandro, how are you?" doctor dalton asked, closing the door behind him. alejandro responded with a hum, shrugging slightly. "been good, you?" doctor dalton did the same, "so-so i guess." he replied.

i waited patiently as the both of them talked and interacted, staring up at the ceiling and just waiting for them to be done, "hello to you too dr. d." i said with a smile, "sorry kai, alejandro's just so much more fun than you in the morning." he said. i laughed, "that's cause he sleeps the whole night. but i had a headache so couldn't get the full eight hours."

"right, well you've gotta get on a sleep schedule, because the meds make you really tired." alejandro told me, i nodded, rubbing my forehead. "hey, by the way, i've been having this weird crick in my neck and was wondering if you knew wh-"

"alejandro, it's me time." i interrupted him, he sighed. mumbling a "whatever." under his breath.

"now kairi, how are your medications doing? any changes in your body? any differences?" doctor dalton asked me, rubbing his hands together and looking down at his lap and going over the checklist on his clipboard.

"fine, just bad migraines, some of them make me really thirsty, and i've had some weight gain." i replied, tapping my fingers on my hands.

"that's good, that means the pills are working, and that's what we want, soon enough those little symptoms will go away." he told me. going over to the sink and opening the cabinet above it, grabbing the blood pressure monitor.

"so how's school doing? sophomore year, must be exciting." dr. d said, i shrugged. high school was exciting but the thought of this year being the same as the last made it boring. "pretty good so far." i replied. i heard alejandro scoff from next to me. "what?" i asked with attitude.

"nothing, it's just you were telling me about that guy who gave you the two bucks to buy a water, and he doesn't sound like he's been making school "pretty good so far." if you ask me." alejandro explained.

i muttered a 'jesus christ.' under my breath as i heard him say that. "its the truth and y'know it." he said in a sing-song voice. dr. d laughed. "who's 'that guy'? if i may ask?" he asked, wrapping the blood pressure cuff around my upper arm.

"one of my classmates from school, real meanie though so we're not like buddy-buddy." i told him, looking down at my my knee and waiting for doctor dalton to be done.

"he said my blood pressure is normal right now. heart rate is fine, and that i seem stressed about something but that's besides the point-oh! and the pills are working wonderfully." i told my mom as i watched her broom around the kitchen. i jumped every time she had to clean under my feet.
