third pov

kairi was not ok.

he'd been throwing up all day since he chemo session.

kairi forgot how much he hated the feeling of throwing up. the convulsing feeling as he leaned on the toilet bowl, wanting the sweet feeling of death to take over. 'cause at least that would take the pain away.

"you okay, kairi?" mattia asked, knocking on kairi's bathroom door trying to see if he was alright. the boy had been in there for a while now, how was he still going at this point.

"n-no..." kairi wobbled up to his full height, gripping his porcelain counter to brush his teeth. for the eleventh time just this hour.

"d-do you need some-"

"please, go away, mattia...just for now, please."

mattia sighed before turning on his feet and walking down the stairs to the kitchen.

"is he okay?" maiya asked once mattia came into his sight, sitting at the kitchen table and waging her cereal.

"uh...think it's just the medicine making him so sick, maiya...he's gonna be okay, yeah?" mattia smiled as best as he could, maiya just nodded before mattia sat down beside her and ate his own cereal.

two weeks later

mattia didn't like this.

being here with kairi at the park, but not being able to play soccer with him.

it was awful.

fuck cancer and all the awful things it does.

"think fast, kairi!" mattia shouted, pretending to throw the soccer ball at kairi, and he didn't even flinch, just groaned quietly, throwing his arm over his eyes.

"not in the mood to play?" he asked, kicking the ball softly towards kairi's leg before sitting down beside him.

"mhm, mm," he shook his head, reaching over and pulling at mattia's shirt sleeve.

"can you take me home?"

mattia just looked over, "you sure? 's still early, we can play one game at least-"

"home...please?"

"...okay, c'mon."

"can you carry me?" kairi began to make grabby hands at mattia, begging to be carried so he wouldn't have to walk.

the thought of getting up and having to walk all the way to mattia's car was really nauseating. "ugh, i guess so." he sighed dramatically, obviously teasing but it did make kairi a bit upset.

he picked kairi up with ease, carrying him up the large hill and up to his car.

he knew kairi wasn't feeling good, and he just thought that some time outdoors with some fresh air would help somewhat. it clearly didn't seeing as kairi was starting to feel light headed and nauseous.

he helped buckle kairi in, pushing his seat back and letting him lay down, putting the visor down to let kairi rest a bit.

mattia started to regret ever asking kairi to come with him to play soccer, he should have let him stay home and rest.
