The Wild Orchid

Chapter 4

                   The next morning Phalen woke early and proceeded to the med bay to see Gabrielle. When she walked in Gabrielle was by herself. After a few moments of starring in silence she asked, "Did you mean what you said about me learning how to control my hunger?" Gabrielle jumped from becoming startled. She then smiled and stated, "Yes I meant what I said. You could learn how to control your hunger. I can help you. You interested? Let me change your bandage. It's soaked in blood." So Phalen removed her shirt so Gabrielle could reclean and bandage her wound. Phalen smiled sheepishly then said, "I'm interested in more then that. Sorry that was out of line on my part. I always seem to struggle with words when I'm interested in somebody or completely nervous. Would you be willing to do that? Aren't you a little worried about what Katherine might say since, I'm not exactly aligned with either side?"

                    Gabrielle smiled coyly while staring at Phalen. She blushed a bright crimson red then said, "Believe it or not it was actually hers and your sister's idea. She likes you an awful lot. You say you struggle with words when you like somebody or are completely nervous huh. Do you see something you like? She believes that if we can help you learn how to control that hunger of yours then, all fae can remain hidden from humans. Therefore they could remain living among the human population." Gabrielle paused briefly. After the brief pause Gabrielle continued, "If the human race found out about your kind, meaning the fae, I'm almost certain they would hunt all of you down and kill you. I love the fae and I don't want that to happen. Your kind are fascinating. I most definitely don't want anything to happen to you."

                 With the shock of this being said Phalen was astonished and silent. She was also blushing with a smile on her face. After being silent for a few moments Phalen spoke teasingly, "Why Doctor Morgan, am I sensing that you have a crush on me?" Before the doctor could answer they were interrupted by Katherine entering the room. Katherine entered the room with a smile on her face. She looked at the two of them then stated, "Gabrielle have you started making the serum to help Phalen with her hunger? Good morning Phalen. Sorry to interrupt." Gabrielle and Phalen looked at each other then answered in unison, "Good morning Katherine." After the embarrassment eased a little bit Gabrielle spoke up. When she spoke up she stated, "I was about to begin the serum to help with her hunger. Phalen I need a fresh blood sample so I can configure it to you specifically. She was concerned about what your perspective was on me helping her. She was concerned due to her not being aligned with either side. I told her it was yours and her sisters idea."

               "Very well then. Please continue. By the way Phalen, when finished here please come see me in my office." Katherine said with a smile. After about an hour or so the first batch was finished. As Gabrielle smiled flirtatiously at Phalen she administered the first dose of the serum. Once done receiving the dose Phalen went to see Katherine. When she reached the door and was about to knock Katherine replied from within, "I've been expecting you. Just come in." Phalen walked in and sat across from her. Phalen is nervous at first but then relaxes. They sat starring at each other for a few minutes in silence. Finally Katherine breaks the silence by saying, "How are you feeling? Yesterday was a rough day. I see Gabrielle is taking great care of you. As for the first dose of the serum, how you feeling with that in your system? You seem hungry. Are you?"

                    Phalen stayed quiet for a moment then stated, "I'm feeling still a bit sore from yesterday. I have a high pain tolerance. I don't feel any different with the serum running through my system. As for the hunger, I'm famished. I've been trying not to act upon it. I've also been trying to ignore it. I don't want to hurt anyone. I'm truly hoping I can learn how to control my hunger, so I can have a "normal" life with a "normal" relationship. That way I can stop waking up next to dead lovers." Once she finished speaking Katherine called for a meal delivery for Phalen, so she could test the serum with the girl. About 5-10 mins later the office door opened. Hearing the door open then close Phalen stood to face the person who had come in.
