The Wild Orchid

Chapter 7

                  Two weeks had passed since the battle had originally ensued. There was no change in Phalen's condition. Doubt and heartbreak started to intensify drastically. Katherine continued her rounds like she had promised. She was rounding every two hours religiously. Around 7pm on the fourteenth night, she made a special visit to see Gabby and Phalen. As she entered the room, she said, "Gabby, go to the Orchid Inn, and have yourself a drink or a few, and get something to eat. You have been neglecting yourself since this happened. Take Kelcey with you. I'll sit here with her till you return. She would want you to take care of yourself. Before you can even try to argue with me, that's an order."

               Gabby smiled, then saluted Kat, and then nodded her head in agreement. She left the room grabbing Kelcey as she left headquarters. When they arrived at the Inn Sassy the owner looked up from behind the bar. Once she saw who it was a smile crept across her face and she said, "Well hello Kelcey and Gabrielle. Long time no see. What's new? How you guys been and how's Phalen doing?" They gave her a saddened look. A look of fear crossed Sassy's face as she came out from behind the bar. Sassy is a short shit of 5ft nothing. She has dark hair, and brown eyes. She has an average build. She is extremely sarcastic with a personality and heart of gold. She walked over to them and stated, "Ember can you please keep an eye on everything. You two come with me to my office now and tell me what the hell is going on. I've known you all for a long time and you are my friends. I know when something isn't right."

              After entering the office with Sassy they sat at her desk. They looked at each other and Gabby said, "Phalen isn't doing well at all. Before you interrupt me please listen to me and let me tell you what happened. There was a huge fight going on between the light and dark fae. The battle is still happening as we speak. She was in hand to hand combat with some sadistic asshole. She put him on the ground. When he got up he stabbed her. She collapsed to the ground and went into shock. Due to the shock she's been in a coma for the past two weeks with no improvement. At this point we're all just hoping she pulls through this." The silence in the room was very heavy. Kelcey had noticed tears streaming down Sassy's face. Sassy then said under her breath, (I feared this would happen. That son of a bitch). Sassy then noticed the suspicious looks she was getting from Kelcey and Gabby. She hadn't realized they had heard what she had said out loud under her breath. Kelcey then spoke, "Sassy we'll keep you posted. We would like to get our usual food and drinks."

               They exited the office and sat at their usual table. When the food was ready it was brought to them by Sassy. Before she walked away Kelcey asked, "How much do we owe you Sassy?" Sassy smiled and said, "It's on the house. Before you say it you are welcome and I'm not taking no for an answer." Gabby and Kelcey gave a small smile and chuckled. When they were done eating Sassy approached them before they could leave and stated, "Just promise me that when she comes out of the coma you'll bring her here so I can see her." They nodded in agreement then they returned to headquarters. When they arrived home it was 10:30pm.

               Gabby rushed back to Phalen's room after giving Kelcey a hug. When she walked in the room she saw Katherine holding Phalen's hand and talking to her. When the door clicked shut Katherine became startled. "Sorry I startled you ma'am. I brought you something for dinner. We all need to take care of ourselves and each other." Gabby said apologetically. Katherine stood up and smiled at Gabby. They then switched places as Katherine walked towards the door to leave.

                  Before she left the room she turned and said to her, "Thank you for the dinner and please don't call me ma'am. You're right about all of us taking care of ourselves and each other. Lay with her. Place your head over her heart and listen to her heartbeat. Hold her in your arms and don't let her go. Maybe just maybe, your unconditional love will be strong enough to wake her from the damn coma. Keep telling her you love her as you fall asleep. Goodnight Gabby." With that being said Katherine left the room.
