A delicate cigarette settled on the fingers of her hand. Her forearms were leaning on the edge of her big window while her sea eyes watched the sun fade over the horizon. She brought the cigarette to her perfectly shaped lips, which contrasted with her perfectly black-painted nails. Once she put it in her mouth, she closed her eyes and inhaled that lethal substance, leaving a black mark on the orange part of the cigarette due to her lipstick. A tear rolled down her cheek and she opened her eyes again. Their usual blue color was now darker, deeper. As if behind them a great battle was taking place that not even she was able to stop. Everything about her was silent, but at the same time, her silence was the most powerful scream.

And by that, for once being able to read her, he knew she was standing on the line between giving up, and seeing how much more she could take.

So as Harry watched her from the seat of his car, he was taking every little detail of that secretive girl, the one he was investigating in order to close one of the most difficult cases that he would face.

A carnival of thoughts and questions ran through his head at the same moment that he watched her, literally collapsing inside, but so calm on the outside.

He saw that sad persona disappear again once she finished her cigarette. She tossed it out of the window and ran her hands over her red cheeks, wiping her tears and making her makeup run a little.

Just like that, those feelings that she had let out for a moment in solitude had returned to hide inside her head, away from the public eye.

It was like she had some rules and was only breaking them when nobody was watching.

Although it was not clear to him, he knew that Brooke could be many things, but not guilty. Just by seeing the tense shape of her perfect shoulders and how she consumed every ilegal substance in order to try to calm her mind from all her intrusive thoughts and from everything that surrounded her told him that whatever happened was hurting her more than it would have done it if she was guilty.

And even though he didn't know anything about her, he was willing to find out each and every one of the secrets she kept.
