Harry StylesI guess you never know where your future will lead you, and I guess that's why we take decisions.
Some people will use the rational side of their brain and think. They'll think about the consequences of their actions and the repercussions of their decisions. Some others will not.
Some others will act before thinking. They will act out of impulse, out of love, fear or pain and they will end up in nothing more but a future full of regrets.
I guess that's why I do what I do for a living. I always took what I thought were the right decisions in my life, but there was always a part of me that wondered about those who didn't. About those who, as I said, acted before anything else.
That's why, every time we have a new case announced, whether is a first degree murder, a robbery or simply some drug trafficking my head can help but think about why the people involved in the illegal acting did what they did.
There's just two answers to my question, or at least those are the ones I found.
The first one is that sometimes we don't have the right state of mind, we're just a head full of chaos and destruction and our only nature is to cause harm. Is to break the rules and to then if you're unlucky and get caught live a life behind bars.
The other one is that us human beings we act out of impulse even though we thought about what could happen. We lose our limits and we snap. We commit something horrific because we can't handle emotions. They became too much and rather than hurting ourselves more, we hurt those who caused us all the pain. The repercussion of this answer though is regret. At least for most people, some others will not feel it.
I know that if I ever did something that could be considered as a crime I would regret it, but that's just who I am.
So as I arrive at the office at 6:45 am, park my car and head to the front doors watching my old converse move through the pavement I can't help but think that I also need new shoes, but that will be a topic I'll overthink later.
Crossing the big metal doors of my work place I'm greeted with the smell of coffee, some low chatting and a few good mornings from some of my colleagues. I've been working at this office for almost two years now and I will be lying if I say I know everyone here, because I definitely don't.
"Good morning Harry," says a voice behind me. I stop walking towards the hall and turn around to see Holly, holding a few cups and handing one to me. "black coffee for you, as always. Blake is already with Ryan, have a good day."
"Thanks, you too." I answer shortly before heading to my destination.
Opening the door at the end of the hallway I meet the blue eyes of Ryan, sipping on his cup, and I take a seat in one of the chairs he has in front of his wooden table without saying a word. I place my coffee on it and rub my face before turning it in the direction of Blake, who is seated beside me staring right back at my sleepy face.
"I can tell your head has already been working and it's not even 7 am, so good morning to you too. Now tell me, what has been running through that stupid brain of yours godly locks?" Blake laughs, knowing I'm not a talkative person this early but still manages to get on my last nerve as always.
"Fuck off."
"Awe bro, don't be so mean, just worried 'bout you and your brilliant brain."
"Whatever. Morning Ryan." I say, turning to look at who has been my boss this last year.
"Good morning." He answers and then starts taking out some police files and placing them on the table. This just makes me sigh louder and hear Blake laugh again. He's so energetic in the morning that I literally want to throw him out the window. But I can't because I guess he's the only thing closer to a brother than I ever had.
