Stupid party.
Stupid Aiden. Stupid Nicholas.
Stupid conditions.
"Going a little hard on that, no?" Beth asks with a grin.
She walks back and forth, Judith on her hip as she attempts to lull her to sleep.
I look down to the material, shaking my head, "I don't have much time. It's in a few hours."
Beth hums in agreement, momentarily behind the wall before passing by the door again.
"Where did you learn that anyway? Seamstress stuff or whatever?" she asks.
"Angela," I name, setting another piece to the side.
"Did you used to go to work with her?" she questions and I nod.
"That's cool.. I only used to go to my daddy's vet office. Sick animals aren't fun to see like pretty dresses, I guess."
"Maybe not, but he still saved those animal's lives," I remind.
"True.. I used to think he was a hero when he'd talk about his day at work," she reminisces, a sad look growing on her face before she's behind the wall once more.
"He saved lives. He was a hero," I remind, "To more than just the animals."
Beth goes quiet, only the sound of her pacing footsteps audible.
I wasn't sure what had happened when she and Daryl were together after the prison. I also wasn't sure what those people at the hospital had put her through.
But, as the story was told- she had stabbed the main woman in charge in the neck- Dawn was her name. And when Beth did so, one of Dawn's own officers fired to Beth but she blocked to bullet by using Dawn's body. Dawn was killed by her own people and when a fight nearly broke out then and there, another officer called them off saying that Dawn needed to go anyway and that Beth did them a favor.
Whatever happened in the moments she hadn't spoken about changed her. She was still sweet and kind as ever, but she held much more confidence and strength to her now. A good change.
"I have dreams about him," Beth says, gaining my attention again.
She pauses in the doorway, pulling Judith closer to her as she leans on the frame. Her eyes stayed on the dress I was working on and she held a frown on her face.
"He tells me that we need to make this place work. That he wished he was able to see it and be with us. That he's upset things went down the way they did and our hands are too bloody. We tried the peaceful way, but.. he.. wouldn't budge so we did what we had to," she explains.
I hesitate on my words, my hands falling to my lap as I also stare at the dress on the floor.
"I saw him," I admit with a whisper.
"Saw?" she wonders.
"I was alone after it all.. You know.. And I was staying in cars at night. I saw him. Him, Andrea, T-Dog, a man named Jim.." I sigh as I run my finger over the material, "My sister."
"What did he say? In my dreams, I think he's saying what I need to hear. Maybe he did the same for you," she offers.
"I don't know," I shake my head, "They always knocked on the window and asked me to let them in. I never.. I never did."
Beth frowns again, "Maybe that's what you need. They're trying to tell you something, but you're blocking it out."
When I don't answer, she forces a smile, "The dreams have helped me. I want this place to work so he doesn't have to worry. Maybe it'll help you."
