Chapter 29: Bebi????!

*a bit of time skip. Timeline: Pass Kila's first day at work*

"How many scheduled surgery for today?" I asked nurse Lau as I wore my stethoscope around my neck.

"Two scheduled surgery for today, one eight am and one four pm. Pero tentative pa po doc 'yung second surgery. Depende po sa time na makukuha at kailangan sa first."

"Okay, pakibigay nalang saakin 'yung chart after ma finalize lahat." Utos ko, habang siya naman ay tumango na lamang.

"Doc pinapasabi po pala ni chief, kung kaya niyo po tumulong ngayong araw sa emergency department?"

Shit, Emergency department.

"Kulang ba ng on call duty ngayon?" Usually kasi that department stays consistent. Usually ha,, I mean back in NYC kasi ganoon.

Napahawak nalang siya sa batok niya. "Ah, 'ee oo po doc. Understaffed po today. May lagnat po kasi 'yung on call sana ngayong araw."

"Okay sige, paki contact nalang ako if kailangan ako." Ang weird ng sagot ko. Malamang kokontakin ako. Hay...

"Sorry Doc, hectic agad-agad first week mo rito." As if it is anyone's fault why my duty is already hectic.

Nginitian ko nalang siya, wala na 'kong masagot 'ee.

"I'll get going, I'll go have my clinical rounds. Just beep my beeper when you need help in the emergency department."

I did my rounds for this morning at may mga nadaanan din akong residents under neurology while going around for my rounds.

"I need Dr. Garcia for the afternoon rounds later. Rely my message to her." Paalala ko kay nurse Lau bago ako umalis ng station ulit.

I have to get ready for my morning surgery today, assist lang naman ang gagawin ko dahil bago-bago pa 'ko dito sa hospital. Back in NYC I'm the surgeon of our surgical team.

I was walking on the white corridors of the hospital when someone called me.

When I heard my name being called I immediately looked to where the sound was coming from.

"Doc! After your surgery po pala may meeting about the up coming clerkship, pinapapunta po kayo ni chief." A Resident Doctor said.

"Anong oras? May rounds pa 'ko ng hapon baka 'di ako makaabot. Kailangan ba talaga ako roon? Or need ko lang mag sit-in?"

"2 pm po, kailangan po ata kayo, narinig ko po kasi kanina baka mag handle po ata kayo ng clerks? Hehe" Sabi niya habang abot tengang nakangiti.

I chuckled at her "hehe"

"Sige sige, may morning surgery ako ngayon awake craniotomy. Starting from eight am to one pm. But one pm is still tentative. Awake craniotomy takes longer than craniotomy under general anesthesia. If ever hindi ako makaabot please rely my reason why. Meron din akong surgery ng four pm." Sagot ko sakanya habang siya detailed na nakikinig sa mga pinagsasabi ko.

"Okay po, doc!" Masigasig naman siyang sumagot. Tumango nalang ako sakanya at naglakad na ulit.

I changed onto my scrubs and scrubbed in to get ready to enter the OR.
