Chapter 8: araw

Today's Christmas, yesterday was Christmas eve and we celebrated it. I am thankful that we're complete. Sarap sa feeling, I am blessed with these people.

"Ready?" My mom asked as I approach our van.

We're celebrating our Christmas day at an orphanage. This is our little Christmas tradition. To give back all our blessings to other families. Ginagawa namin 'to tuwing pasko. Kahit noon pa bago pa man ako umalis ng Pilipinas.

"Yes, mommy." I widely smiled at her.

To be honest sobrang miss ko na 'yung orphanage na pinupuntahan namin tuwing pasko. Every year naman nag-papalit kami ng orphanage but there are times na bumabalik kami sa isang specific orphanage. Just like this year.

There's a little girl there that's so close to my heart. You'll see why later.

I was looking outside the window when my mom spoke.

"Last year sa hospital kami nag-celebrate, we celebrated with children and families battling cancer." She caught my attention. Hindi niya sinabing hospital ang pinuntahan nila last year. That was my dream destination. I want to  do that also.

I smiled sadly at her. "I wished I was there," I said with a sad tone.

"Don't be sad, pinagmalaki ka naman ng nanay mo." My dad suddenly joined the conversation.

"Mommy, totoo?" I asked like a kid.

She chuckled. "Ang sabi ko lang naman, balang araw isa ang anak ko sa mga tutulong sakanila."

"Kikiligin na ba 'ko?" I jokingly asked her.

"Pwedeng oo, pwedeng hindi." Sagot naman niya sa tanong ko. I wonder what is kuya thinking right now. He's quiet.

Kinalabit ko siya, his eyes were closed so hindi ko alam kung gising ba siya o hindi. "Hmm?" He asked after opening his eyes. Gising pala.

"Okay ka lang?" I mouthed. His brows furrowed, not getting why I asked if he's fine.

"I said okay ka lang?" I whispered this time. Ayaw kong marinig nila mommy, baka ano pa isipin nila. "Bakit naman hindi?" He said.

"Tahimik mo kaya," I whispered. Medyo nangawit ako dahil na sa likod siya. So I stood up and slowly transferred at the back. Our van's customized so the chairs are individual.

I sat beside his chair and stared at him. "What?" His brows furrowed.

"Weh? Parang hindi ka ata okay, ee?" Pag pupumilit ko pa rin sa tanong ko. "What will you do if hindi?" Pinagtaasan niya 'ko ng kilay.

Ay attitude siya, sis. "Attitude naman," I said.

"I'm fine, my little sister. Nag-away lang kami ng ate Fiona mo." My eyes widened hearing an unfamiliar name.

"Wait! Who's ate Fiona!!?" I tried to whisper that, it's a talk between siblings right now!

"My girlfriend." I can't tell what type of tone he used right there.
