CHAPTER 17
"Louie!" Bigla akong napasigaw nang makita ang isang malaking truck na paparating. Kinabig ni Louie pakanan ang kotse. All I did was close my eyes and hope that we survive. Naramdaman ko ang biglaang pagpreno ni Louie sa kotse kasabay ng nakakabinging tunog ng mga nagyuyupiang metal. I intently closed my eyes. Akala ko katapusan ko na. Napamulat ako nang maramdaman kong kinabig akong bigla ni Louie at niyakap.
"I'm sorry, Yumi. I'm sorry". I felt his fear. His body was trembling and so was mine.
He released me from his hug and faced me thereafter, "si Red!" He exclaimed.
We went out of the car and rushed to the scene. I stopped and was stoned on the ground when I saw Red's car. I felt like my world crashed right in front of me. It was all shattered!
I saw the driver of the truck get down from the said vehicle. A small stream of blood was gushing down his face but he still decided to check on Red’s car.
I saw Louie run towards Red's car while talking on his phone. He might have called for an ambulance. Some cars stopped as well. Some were shouting to ask people to call for an ambulance too
Dahan-dahan akong lumapit sa pinangyarihan ng aksidente. I can’t even cry. I was just staring at it. I couldn’t believe at what I was looking at.
Lumapit sakin si Louie at bigla akong niyakap. "It's ok Yumi. Red's going to be fine."
That was the signal. It was only at that time when everything sank in. Tears started to fall off my cheeks and it was only later when I realized that I was already crying.
Dapat nga maging masaya nga ako kasi parang nakabawi na nga ako sa lahat ng mga masasamang ginawa niya sakin at sa pamilya ko, pero bakit ganito? I could not explain what I was feeling.
Lumapit kami ni Louie pero pinigilan kmi ng mga rescuers.
"Mama, asawa ko po ang nagmamaneho ng kotse. Hayaan nyo po akong lumapit. Please po" pagmamakaawa ko sa isang rescuer pero hindi pa rin niya ako pinayagan. Humugulgol na lng ako ng iyak habang inaalalayan ni Louie.
"Kuya, kumusta po ang sakay ng kotse? Makakaligtas po ba sya? Kuya gawin niyo po ang lahat upang maligtas ang kaibijgan ko" dinig kong tanong ni Louie sa isang rescuer pero hindi din naman siya sinagot ng huli.
Maya-maya pa, dumating na din ang ibang mga kaibigan ni Red.
"Bro, what happened? Kumusta si Red" tanong ni Carlos.
Hindi na kami nakasagot dahil nakita namin na sa wakas, nailabas na din si Red. Lumapit kaming lahat kay Red pero pinigilan pa rin kami.
Nagpasalamat ako nang malamang buhay pa ang asawa ko. nakita kong nilagyan siya ng oxygen habang sakay ng stretcher at pinasok ng ambulansya
"Kuya, sasama po ako! ako po ang asawa niya!" Sigaw ko. Pinasama naman ako ng rescuer sa loob ng ambulansya pero hindi naman pinayagan ang mga kaibigan ni Red.

It's almost a couple of weeks since the accident, yet Red remains unconscious. Nakalabas na rin siya nang ICU. The doctors told me that he's still lucky he was able to get out of his car, alive. But, the agony of waiting for him to wake up is killing me. I decided to stay and dropped the thought of leaving for now considering what happened to Red. Nagalit man sa akin si Louie dahil katangahan daw ang naging desisyon ko, pero I can't stop blaming myself for what happened to Red. I wanted to stay beside him and make sure he's ok maybe until he wakes up
