CHAPTER 13.1

A few days after I saw Red having a nightmare in his office, ilang araw din ulit na hindi niya ako pinansin. Hindi na ako nagtaka. Mas magtataka at matatakot pa nga ako kung pinapansin niya ako. Everytime he talks to me, even if it be a very quick conversation, I always end up getting hurt. So, I’d rather have things this way than the other.

I was in my room and I just finished taking a shower when I heard a knock at my door.

“Ma’am Yumi, pinapatawag po kayo ni Sir Red sa office niya” Isa sa mga katulong pala ang nasa pinto.

“Sige, lalabas na ako kaagad” Ano na naman kaya kasalanan ko sa kaniya? Ano na naman kaya ang pinalano niya sa pamilya ko?

I quickly brushed my hair and went directly to Red’s office. I knocked thrice at first.

“Get in!” I heard him say. So, I turned the knob and opened the door to enter.

“What took you so long?” He asked.

“Sorry, kakalabas ko lang kasi ng shower kaya natagalan ako” I lowered my head to show remorse. Ayoko nang masaktan.

“I hate it when people make me wait. Basura ka lang para paghintayin ako. You don’t have the right to waste my time. Make sure that there be no next time, because if you do it again, I think you know what will happen” He warned me again.

“Sorry Red” I apologized. In the short span of time I was with Red, I realized that it’s never good to be too vocal. I have to submit myself to him. One word or two-word answers are the best responses.

“Your sorry won’t change anything. It’s done. You’ve wasted my time” He answered back. See? You can never win against Red. He’s always right. So, nodding your head in agreement or not saying anything at all may be better choices too.

“Umupo ka nga!” He ordered. I settled myself at the chair in front of his desk.

“May launching ng bagong site ang kompanya mamaya. I want you to be there.”

“Pero wala akong susuutin” I interrupted.

“Shut up! Hindi pa ako tapos. Don’t interrupt me when I’m still talking. Alam kong wala kang isusuot. I’m not stupid. What’s inside that box over there is what you’re going to wear later. May sapatos na rin dyan” He pointed at the two boxes on top of the center table near his couch. I also saw a small paper bag on top of one of the boxes.

“Thank you” I told him. I couldn’t do anything anyway. I can’t say I don’t want to go. I might as well just follow whatever he says.

“You need to be ready by six PM. Program’s going to start at seven. I’m warning you, huwag na huwag mo akong paghihintayin. You may leave” Utos niya sa akin so I immediately stood up and took the boxes and left his office. Ganun naman talaga siya kung kumausap sa akin. Mas masahol pa sa katulong. Well, after all, sees me as his enemy.
