CHAPTER 2

A PAIR OF STAR-CROSSED FRIENDS

“It's about more than us, now, can't you see? I love you, of course I do, but some things...some things just have to be done.”

― Natasha Farrant, The Things We Did For Love

Years later, Raenaslee and Legolas never meet each other. Raenaslee celebrated her birthday in Rivendell, there she meet again her cousin, Arwen and Lord Elrond, at her next birthday, she celebrated hers at Lothlorien, at Lothlorien, Raenaslee received a gift from Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn, a heart headdress, which symbolize her royalty, beauty and love.

Years passed by, Elrond finally told Fëaraen the truth about her daughter, Fëaraen understood her brother-in-law very well. But one night, a light woke up the Lady-Queen of Meriltaurë.

“Who are you?” the elven queen asked in trembling voice. Then the light revealed to be the Lady Elbereth.

“Oh fear not, my child. I come here with peace and a message from Eru the One. He said you must teach and love your daughter, Raenaslee well at all times for she is not only a princess of your land.”

Fëaraen sat up straight to listen carefully what was the Queen of the Valar going to say.

“Raenaslee… was the Daughter of the One.” Elbereth finally added, and that made the elven queen shocked, her daughter’s soul was Eru Ilúvatar’s begotten daughter. But wait she’s not yet finished, Elbereth was not yet done.

“And when she is not a little babe anymore, you will call her by the name Elflove, verily Raenaslee Elflove, and that name will be an emblem that she is Ilúvatar’s only begotten daughter.” Elbereth said.

“Lady Elbereth, you know I’ll teach Raenaslee how to be lady but what else did Lord Eru wanted me to teach her?” Fëaraen asked.

“Teach her how to wield a bow and an arrow, teach her how to wield a sword, teach her how to fight as a warrior like you. Do not tell her know about this until your first reunion with her for someday, time will come that she’ll sacrifice what is hers only to keep those she loves in a place where there is a peaceful love.” Elbereth has vanished; leaving the confused Fëaraen, what does Varda meant Raenaslee would sacrifice what was hers? She couldn’t guess for the One and the Valar worked together in mysterious ways.

By the following night Fëaraen told Raenaslee that she must be careful because of Sauron, Raenaslee promised to her mother’s sake, before she was going to sleep, Fëaraen told her daughter that they should go to the shore where she was born, because the time had come that she should meet King Thranduil of Mirkwood and Prince Legolas, his son, whom she never recognized before,

Meanwhile at Mirkwood, Thranduil told his son that he should meet Queen Fëaraen of Meriltaurë and her daughter Princess Raenaslee, he never believed that he would finally meet Queen Fëaraen again for it’s been years he never laid his eyes on her but Princess Raenaslee, he didn’t know who she is but the name is familiar.

The next day, the queen of Meriltaurë and her daughter were walking at the shore, Queen Fëaraen told her daughter to take her time at the sea while she was looking for the king. Meanwhile, King Thranduil told his son that he will look for the queen, while Legolas will wander at the shore. Raenaslee enjoyed playing in the water, this is the first time she experience this wonderful, Legolas finally arrived at the coast, and he saw a young elf who’ve just appeared above the water, the young elven princess looked at the elf and they looked familiar to each other, at that moment, King Thranduil and Queen Fëaraen appeared, Raenaslee walked to shore as her mother approaching. The king and queen introduced their children each other.

Fëaraen: Raenaslee, this is King Thranduil of Mirkwood and his son Prince Legolas, Thranduil, Legolas this is Princess Raenaslee, my daughter.

Raenaslee: Le Suilon, Aran Thranduil o Mirkwood and it is a pleasure to meet you Ernil Legolas, Thranduilion (I greet thee, King Thranduil of Mirkwood--------Prince Legolas, son of Thranduil).

Thranduil: Nice to meet you Raenaslee, daughter of Fëaraen. It’s been years we’ve met. Legolas, this is Queen Fëaraen and Princess Raenaslee, her daughter. Fëaraen, Raenaslee, this is Prince Legolas.

Legolas: I’m very please to meet you again Bereth Fëaraen, Bereth o Meriltaurë. Le Suilon, Aranel Raenaslee, daughter of Fëaraen (------Queen Fëaraen, Queen of Meriltaurë. I greet thee, Princess Raenaslee---)

After the two elves know each other, their friendship finally begins. It’s been years that Legolas and Raenaslee enjoyed their time together always while doing their duties as what they are in sometimes. The day had finally come that the prince and the princess will never see each other again. As Queen Fëaraen and Raenaslee were leaving, they first say good bye to each other.

Fëaraen: Well, this is where we should say good bye. But we will keep our promise for you.

Thranduil: That you should meet each other again someday.

Legolas: When?

Raenaslee: Where?

Thranduil: (smile) you’ll see.

Fëaraen: It’s time to say good bye, Beinmeleth (as putting an arm around the shoulder)

Raenaslee: I’m going to miss you so much Legolas, Nin Mellon (--------my friend) (As embracing him and crying).

Legolas: I’m going to miss you more than ever. (Pulled away and wipe her tears).

Then he gave her a beautiful necklace that resembled the Evenstar but with a pink jewel on the centre, it was said that this necklace was related to the Evenstar necklace but it was called the Morneven because its light came from the light that ruled the day (sun) and the light that ruled the night (moon) that came from the jewel which was a gift from Elbereth and the other Valar to know if Raenaslee’s love is strong by the glow of the light of the gem. It was given to Legolas to give to Raenaslee, because they knew their relationship was strong.

Raenaslee: I will never forget you, and I will always take care of my headdress that I always wear every special celebration with you. And our token of our friendship. And this pendant for your loving-care.

Legolas: I will do the same thing Nin Mellon.

Fëaraen: Good-bye Thranduil.

Thranduil: Farewell Fëaraen, but we will meet each other again.

Fëaraen: (smile) I know. Let’s go my love.

The elven prince and the elven princess gazed each other one last time before the queen and the princess mounted at their horses. The two she-elves rode quietly to the bridge to Meriltaurë. As Legolas and his father watched them at the cliff, they saw Fëaraen and Raenaslee were still passing the bridge, and then the two she-elves looked back and they saw the two elves were watching them, the prince and the princess waved their hand and swept away as Thranduil and Fëaraen finally realized that because of their duties-need-to-be-done that made them separated, Legolas and his Raenaslee became a pair of star-crossed friends.
