CHAPTER 8

A RAGING BATTLE

“Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved.”
― Martin Luther

Boom

Boom-boom.

Boom-boom-boom. The beat paused.

Then like a heartbeat, it began again. Louder and louder, closer and closer it came. Terror crept onto their faces.

Sam: Frodo!

Legolas: Orcs!

Aragorn: Get back! You stay close to Gandalf!

Boromir: They have a cave troll.

Boromir leaning back holding the door shut. Legolas and Raenaslee tossed weapons to Boromir and Aragorn to help him blocked the door. After the door was sealed everyone drew their weapons.

"Yagghh" Gandalf yelled as he threw off his hat and took out his sword. The Hobbits followed his example and brandished their short-swords. Gimli leaped atop Balin's tomb and brandished his axe. Legolas stood next to Raenaslee and aimed his bow.

"Aarrgghhh! Let them come! There is one dwarf yet in Moria who still draws breath!" Gimli bellowed angrily.

Legolas, Aragorn, and Raenaslee stood poised, ready to shoot; the Hobbits were also ready, though fear clouded their eyes. The first clear gap was gashed in the door, Legolas and Raenaslee shot their arrow, a shrill cry rung out as they hit their aim.

Suddenly, the beasts broke through and so the battle began. A wave of armor-clad Orcs charged towards them. Raenaslee, Aragorn and Legolas pierced Orcs with their arrows while Boromir smashed others with his sword, and Gimli caught one in the stomach. With a roar, Gandalf launched himself into the fray, and the Hobbits followed suit.

Aragorn beheaded an Orc and black blood spewed forth. Raenaslee paused in the heat of battle, her attention drawn upwards. Aragorn also looked up. A cave troll smashed through the doorway, chains leading from his wrists to an Orc‘s hand. Legolas shot the cave troll in the shoulder; the beast growled and clapped a hand to the wound. Sam stared, frozen, as the troll swung his mace down at the Hobbit. Sam snapped back into it and dove under the trolls legs just as it brought down its mace. Turning around it quickly spotted him again. Sam was cornered. Fighting off the orcs Raenaslee hurried to the hobbit and placed her in front of him.
The beast raised his arm to strike when, suddenly, he fell back. Aragorn and Boromir were behind the troll, pulling on its chains. Raenaslee let out a breath of relief.

"Go find a place to hide, I'll be near" she told him before pierce the head off an Orc that charged at them. Looking back she noticed the troll had twisted its arm around the chain and whipped Boromir across the room. He landed in a recess of the wall, dazed. An Orc stood above him, ready to strike. In a flash she drew her bow and shot it in the head.

Standing upon the tomb of Balin, Gimli slung his axes, piercing the troll’s shoulder near Legolas’ arrow. The troll swung his mace into the tomb, shattering it and knocking Gimli off.

Looking back at Sam Raenaslee saw he was okay. she then looked around the room for the rest of the hobbits. She saw Merry, Pippin, and Frodo and headed toward them.
