CHAPTER 15

THE RETURN OF THE WIZARD

“And now you'll be telling stories
of my coming back
and they won't be false, and they won't be true
but they'll be real”
― Mary Oliver, A Thousand Mornings

Gimli touched a leaf with an oily black substance on it. He brought it to his mouth and spitted. “Orc blood.” He stated.

“It tastes good, isn’t.” The she-elf said, with a sarcastic look but disgusted inside.

Gimli grumbled as a no.

Aragorn knelt over a mossy patch of ground, “These are strange tracks.”

“The air is so close in here.” Said Gimli.

“This forest is old, very old. It’s full of memory and anger.” Said Legolas as the sound of boughs moving over head was heard. “The trees are speaking to each other.” Legolas exclaimed and turned around.

“Gimli, lower your ax.” Aragorn said.

“They have feelings my friend. The elves began it, waking up the trees and teaching them to speak.” Legolas said as he looked around in wonder.

“Even the animals, wild, gentle, small, and big, the elves make them understand. And also the elegant flowers.” Raenaslee added as she remembered the wonders of nature. As she did, she lifted her hand to the level of her heart and flowers began to grow and bloom, surrounded at her feet.

“What do trees have to talk about? Except maybe the consistence of squirrel droppings.” Gimli retorted.

“Aragorn, nad no enas.” (Aragorn, something is out there.) Legolas said as he walked up next to him.

Raenaslee felt it too, and quickly she walked ahead of him, leaving the blooming flower bed and stood on a pair of large boulders.

“Mani naa ta?” (What is it?) Aragorn asked as he stood behind Legolas.

“The White Wizard approaches.” Legolas said. He looked at Aragorn then again placed his hand out behind him again.

“Do not let him speak, for he will put a spell on us.” Said Aragorn.

They got better holdings on their weapons. A figure appeared in a cloud of bright light, Gimli threw his ax and it’s deflected. Legolas’ arrow, too flew away from its target, Raenaslee just threw her arrow at her target but also been deflected, and Aragorn’s sword started to glow red, he dropped it as if it burned his hand.

“You are tracking the footsteps of two young hobbits.” Said the still glowing white figure, he had yet to revile himself.

“Where are they?” asked Aragorn.

“They passed this way the day before yesterday. They met someone they did not expect. Does that comfort you?” Asked the white figure.
