CHAPTER 18

WHERE ARE YOU, ARAGORN?

“It seems the more we know, the less we believe.”
― J.S.B. Morse, Now and at the Hour of Our Death

The next morning came and they still continued their travel to Helm’s Deep. Screams were heard from up ahead, Raenaslee and Legolas drew their bow. A giant dog like creature with a saddle on its back stood growling, while the corps of an orc lay on Legolas’ feet.

“A scout!” Legolas and Raenaslee shouted.

Aragorn turned around to warm the company, Raenaslee stayed by Legolas in case more of these scouts should appear.

“Wargs! We’re under attack!” Aragorn shouted.

Legolas and Raenaslee watched as a host of warg riders came charging towards them over the rocky plains. They drew their bow and knocked an arrow as they started shooting.

The sound of galloping hooves was heard from behind them. Many of the wargs fell as Legolas and Raenaslee used their elven sight to shoot them from afar, sadly they cannot kill them all. Then Legolas carried Raenaslee in the air to Emilyra, and then swung himself at Arod to his saddle.

They charged over the hills like ants, many men and horses fell before them as they moved on. As the battle came to an end, Gimli slid off so that he could kill some of the remaining wargs on the ground.

Legolas: Aragorn?

Raenaslee: Aragorn?

Gimli: Aragorn?

Then Raenaslee, Legolas and Gimli stood by a dying orc.

Gimli: Tell me what happened and I will ease your passing.

Dying orc: He’s…dead. He took a little tumble off the cliff.

Legolas: You lie. (as he grabbed on the orc’s vest)

Raenaslee: Those words are not true! They only come from your very own deceptive lips!

The orc said nothing and died, and then Raenaslee and Legolas spotted what the orc was holding: the Evenstar necklace of Aragorn. Legolas, Raenaslee, Gimli and Théoden went on the edge. They looked over and couldn’t see anything but water.

“Get the wounded on horses, the wolves of Isengard will return. Leave the dead.” Théoden said.

Legolas and Raenaslee glared at him. “Come” Théoden said, putting his hand on Legolas’ shoulder and swept away leaving Gimli, Legolas and Raenaslee.

They got to Helm’s deep and the sight there was even worse than it had been in Rohan. The quarters were much closer and there were many more people. They followed the King up to the center of Helm’s Deep. People took their horses and they’re led to the stables.

Éowyn greeted them, and her eyes searched for Aragorn, so does Gimli. He walked up to her and said, “My lady.”

“Lord Aragorn, where is he?” she asked him.

“He fell.” Gimli said, he tried to break the news comfortingly but she was shocked. Her eyes met Raenaslee and she nodded solemnly. Although in her heart, Raenaslee believed Aragorn was still alive.

She walked up to her, and she sat down. “Éowyn, I’m sorry.” Raenaslee been watching as her affections for Aragorn had grown, even though she knew Aragorn loved Arwen.

“It is true then?” she asked, Raenaslee placed her arm around her shoulder.

“I don’t know, because I don’t believe his dead.” she hang her head. nothing.

Tears fell from her eyes, and Raenaslee pulled her against her shoulder.
