the following couple of months went by fast. JJ had finally been adopted and was on hundred percent apart of our family. we celebrated by getting him a motorbike he'd begged mom for. cami's trial came and went, she and her dad paid a large fine to us and she got two years behind bars to the assault charges. kayden and jenna had broken up and he made his decision to move here with us. we'd moved houses, to a new one that had just been built a couple streets away and cami's dad bought the old one again, which was weird, but whatever. the restaurant had been thriving and had even been aired on the local news, which brought in a ton of new customers.
as for everyone else, i hadn't spoken to them, had barely seen them really. katie and JJ had tried to work through their problems, but it came to a quick close. he seemed fine with it, kept himself busy with school now that it was his senior year and he was at the kook academy. kayden became the lead cook at the restaurant and we'd hired another server, justine, who hit it off with him right off the bat.
"okay," i smiled and placed the plates down on the table. "chicken tenders and a cheeseburger with fries, can i get you guys anything else?"
"no, this is fantastic, thank you." the girl smiled as i moved on, checking my other tables.
i turned as JJ yelled, "heads up!" moving past me with a tray full of sodas. i laughed and moved over to the counter, coming up with the checks for my tables.
"hey honey, here's your tips from last night." my mom walked over, sliding a folded envelope to me.
"thanks mom," i smiled, kissing her cheek.
"i'm running to get some fresh veggies, we're almost out, you need anything?"
"no, i'm okay."
"i want chocolate covered pretzels, please and thanks." JJ smiled before moving into the kitchen. i laughed light as my mom shook her head. she walked out the back as i printed the receipts, sliding them on the tables as the doors to the restaurant opened.
"welcome to ainsley's," i smiled and turned, seeing the cameron family stood in front of me. rose, ward, wheezie, sarah, rafe and the baby. i felt my smile fade slightly as i walked over. "table for five and a booster?" i asked.
"yes," rose nodded as i grabbed some menus. "indoor or outdoor."
"it's pretty nice outside, huh? let's sit outside." ward nodded. i grabbed a booster seat and walked outside, letting them follow. i directed them to a table, letting them get seated as i handed them the menus. rafe placed the baby in the booster seat as he brushed her cheek. "can i get you guys started with drinks?"
"rose and i will take coke's." ward smiled. i nodded and looked to sarah.
"sweet tea," she said. i looked over at rafe.
"pepsi or coke is fine."
"and what about you?" i smiled, leaning down to wheezie, wrapping my arms around her. she laughed and pushed me off.
"a lemonade."
"coming up," i booped her nose before walking in. i went back to the kitchen, grabbing the drinks and bringing them out. i dropped the tray back in the kitchen, getting my other tables cleared before going back outside to get their orders.
"ainsley," wheezie motioned me over.
"what's up?" i asked as she pointed to something.
"is this new? i haven't seen it on here before?" she pointed to a salmon dish.
"yeah, kayden added it. it's fresh salmon that my mom gets from down on the water."
"is it good?"
"it's amazing." i smiled at her.
