At breakfast they were sitting on each side of the table. Which was unusual. Kenma had waited for Kuroo to sit down before finding a seat as far away as possible.
I just want to figure out what is going on. Kuroo hadn't seemed to have taken notice. He wasn't showing it, at least.
"I am going out soon, by the way", Kuroo said before taking his last bite of food. Kenma just nodded his head, staring down at his own food.
Maybe I'll get some time to think. Kuroo put away his dishes before going into the living room. Kenma kept poking at his food. He didn't feel that hungry. Carefully he put it in the fridge, hoping his mom wouldn't notice. On his way up to his room he saw Kuroo putting on his shoes.
"See you later." Kenma waved slowly as Kuroo closed the door after himself. When the door closed, Kenma dragged himself up the stairs before laying down on his bed.
Finally alone. He was staring at the ceiling. His mind was rushing.
It all started that night, right? They had cuddled. He had realised that much. They had always been close, but that was a first. His cheeks got warm just thinking about it. A tiny smile formed on his lips.
It had been nice. Kuroo had always been there for Kenma. Dragged him outside when he had been spending too much time on his games. Helped him when school got troublesome, or if he was ever feeling anxious. Kenma had always felt safe with Kuroo. His heart was racing while remembering everything. This warm feeling was spreading through his body. He was staring at the ceiling, eyes widening in horror.
Is this what all the girls are talking about? Liking someone?
Liking someone. No, it had to be a mistake. Kuroo was Kenma's childhood friend. There had been no feelings like that involved.
It has to be a mistake. Kenma reached for his game on the floor. Next to it was one of Kuroo's sweaters. He looked at it for a while before picking it up. It was huge compared to Kenma.
It really smells like him. The smell of Kuroo made the warm feeling grow even more. Yet again his eyes shot up in horror before he threw the sweater onto the guest futon.
There really is no denying it, huh? He felt as if he couldn't breathe. There was no way this was okay.
Falling for my childhood friend. How pathetic. He sighed before laying back down on his bed.
Maybe if I avoid him for a while, it will sort itself out. The thought of not hanging out with Kuroo hurt, but the thought of losing Kuroo completely was unbearable.
