Kuroo let go of the door handle. It was no use. He knew Kenma wouldn't want to see anyone right now, especially not him. How did it all go so wrong? They had always been close. Kenma knew everything about him, and he knew everything about Kenma.

How could I be so stupid?

Of course he had known he wasn't just lonely. He stared at the door, his stomach feeling like it was tying itself into a knot.

"I'm so sorry," he whispered as he turned around and started walking home, his head filled with thoughts.

Does he hate me? The question lingered in his head as he was dragging his feet. Kuroo felt like Kenma had all the reasons to. Getting a girlfriend just because he was in denial about his real feelings? How far had he fallen? Kenma's face was burned into his memory. He had looked like the embodiment of a heart breaking. There was no mistaking that face.

Does he like me too? He thought as he aimlessly walked into his house. Or liked.

Stopping in his tracks, he reached for his phone and looked through his contact list. Dialling the number, he put the phone to his ear.

"Hey, I know this might be weird, but could I come over?" After getting a positive response, he changed his course and started walking again.

He was standing outside the door, waiting for it to open while fiddling with his backpack string.

"Hey!" A voice said as the door was open, startling Kuroo. "Welcome, come on in." Kuroo nodded nervously and took a couple of steps inside before taking off his shoes.

"I'm sorry for intruding, Yaku," Kuroo mumbled as Yaku was showing the way to his room. Yaku waved his arms as he opened the door.

"Hey, no worries. You sounded like you needed someone to talk to. I'm just surprised you called up me and not Kenma," he chuckled as he sat down on his bed. Kuroo scratched his neck as he took a seat at the chair by the desk.

"Yeah, I feel like he might not want to talk to me," Kuroo murmured, staring at the floor. Yaku scoffed, a small chuckle coming out of him.

"What'd you do, hide one of his games again?" He continued chuckling until he saw how Kuroo was staring into the floor, fiddling with his pants.

"I- uhm," Kuroo stuttered. "I might have really fucked up." Yaku crossed his legs and leaned closer.

"Please, do tell." Kuroo started explaining all the way back from the weird night he had had with Kenma, to how he had ended up with a girlfriend, to how Kenma had seen him with the girlfriend when he had tried to break up with her.

"Wait, hold the phone," Yaku said as he was shaking his arms along with his head. "You're telling me you like Kenma?" Kuroo could feel the judging look drill into him. Had it been a mistake to tell him? He opened his mouth, but only a stutter came out, scared of what Yaku was thinking.

"And you just chickened out and got a girlfriend, instead of just shooting your shot?" Kuroo's stuttering stopped, his mouth halfway open. He looked over to Yaku with a confused look, not really able to say anything out of pure shock over the response he had not seen coming. Yaku shrugged his shoulders as he leaned his arms back at the bed.

" I mean, in all honesty, I thought you two were already dating, so you getting a girlfriend was a shocker." Kuroo raised his eyebrows, not really sure what to say about what Yaku had just confessed.

"What? You guys have been inseparable ever since he started here. How could I not think you guys were dating?" Kuroo shyly stared into the ground, feeling his cheeks getting warm.

"That's not-"

"That's not what? True?" Yaku interrupted him, laughing loudly. "Don't you dare even try it. You guys have always stuck together as if you're glued to each other." Kuroo's cheeks got even warmer. He carefully touched one of his cheeks with his hand, acting like he was scratching it to feel how bad it was.

"Well, even so, I might've really screwed up this time. He won't even hear me out." Yaku's gaze softened as he sat himself up properly on his bed.

"I can't really blame him. By his reaction it seems like he likes you too, so seeing you with a girlfriend must've broken him. Maybe just give him some time to cool down, and try explaining things when he is ready to talk?"

He's right, Kuroo thought to himself, fiddling with his fingers feeling like there was no comfortable way to keep his hands.

It's gonna be alright, right?

Time had flown a little too fast for Kenma's liking. Practices, tournaments, exams. It had all passed without Kenma feeling present for any of it. He had dissociated through it all, not paying any close attention, managing to do mediocre as usual on autopilot.

As for Kuroo, he didn't know. Kenma hadn't actively been trying to avoid him, but he still couldn't get himself to hang out with him like they used to. They greeted each other in the hallways and didn't avoid each other while at practice, but Kenma had started just walking to and from school on his own. The thought of seeing Kuroo with any girls hurt him to the core, and he tried avoiding that particular scenario at any cost. It always felt like Kuroo had something to tell him, but Kuroo always hesitated, and let Kenma walk whenever.

Kenma was staring at his school uniform, hesitant to put it on. He couldn't really believe that the day was here, the day that Kuroo graduated from high school. Meaning Kenma would have one year left on his own. It felt surreal. He stood still, not wanting to move. As if not putting on his school uniform would stop time from moving, even though he knew that wasn't the case. He wasn't even sure if he wanted to attend, knowing how strained their relationship was at this point.

He sighed, having to face reality. Kuroo was leaving, and there was no way to stop it. And because of everything, Kenma was scared of but sure of the fact that him and Kuroo would most likely lose contact when Kuroo started college. Kenma wanted everything except that to happen, but it was too late. Reluctantly, he put on his school uniform. Being there for his last day was the least he could do for his friend.
