Kuroo stood leaning against one of the walls. The hallway was empty, since it was only a shortcut from the other side of the building. He could hear all the other students in the main hallway chatting away. Suddenly he could hear footsteps walking towards him. A lump formed in his throat. He tried smiling as she was in front of him.
"Hey," he said casually. She looked up at him. He couldn't tell what kind of expression she had on her face. It looked like she was trying to be angry, but her knees were shaking.
"You, ehm. You wanted to talk to me?" Kuroo asked nervously. She looked down to the ground before she took a deep breath. As she looked back up at him, he could see tears forming in the corner of her eyes.
Oh shit.
"Do you hate me?" she asked, her voice shaking. Kuroo's eyes shot up in shock.
"Wait, what?" was all Kuroo managed to answer. She dried away her tears in a swift move before continuing.
"You barely talk to me, you run off as soon as we get to the school, and you won't even let me touch you! Am I that embarrassing to be around?" It sounded like she tried hiding the pain in her voice, but her voice kept cracking. Kuroo didn't have any words. Looking back at it, he had really avoided any advances she had tried. And he hadn't been the biggest talker as well.
She has all rights to be upset. He bit the inside of his lip, scanning his head for anything to say. But he was blank.

Kenma walked out of the classroom. Kuroo's classroom was at the other side of the building, so he would have to walk for a bit. The hallway started filling with students.
There're too many people at this school, he thought for himself. Making his way over there, he decided he wanted to take the shortcut through the hallway next to Kuroo's classroom. Since he knew that most people don't use it. As he got closer, he heard voices coming from it. Kenma stopped before the opening.
"-and you won't even touch me! Am I that embarrassing to be around?" It was a girls voice. She sounded upset, her voice cracking a small bit.
Is it a couple fighting? It got silent for a bit. A couple of sniffles could be heard.
Just my luck. Will they be long? Kenma leaned against the wall, trying to listen if they would walk away. After a couple of seconds of silence, a few footsteps could be heard.
"Are you that afraid of human contact?" The girl asked, her voice now angrier than anything else. Had she tried grabbing the guy? Still the guy hadn't said anything.
Should I rather go around? This might take a while.
"Am I really your girlfriend, Kuroo?" Kenma froze. That couldn't be right. He had heard wrong, right? Shakingly, he peaked his head past the wall and into the hallway, his bag falling to the floor.

She was staring daggers at him now. He had flinched when she had tried grabbing his hand.
This is not good.
"Are you that afraid of human contact?" she had asked, anger now filling her voice. He bit his lip, trying to figure out what to say. Anything would be better than saying nothing at this point.
"Am I really your girlfriend, Kuroo?" He looked down at the floor.
I should just do it now, get done with it. As he looked back up, he could hear something falling to the floor nearby. As he turned, he got direct eye contact with Kenma. His eyes were filled with tears, mouth open in shock.
No, this isn't right. What is he doing here?
"Kenma-" Kuroo said, before Kenma moved away from the hallway opening.
"Kenma!" As Kuroo took a step, his girlfriend held him back.
"No, you answer me, Kuroo!" She seemed to be at the tipping point, reasonably so. Kuroo's heart was racing. It felt like it was about to jump right out of his chest.
He wasn't supposed to find out! His girlfriend was still holding him towards the wall, still staring daggers.
"I'm sorry. But no. I am breaking up," he said quickly before shaking her hand off and running towards the end of the hallway. But Kenma was gone.
Shit.

Kenma felt tears building up as he looked into the hallway. There Kuroo was leaning against the wall, with a girl in front of him, staring intensely at him. He wanted to scream. Run away.
I can't believe it. This isn't happening. He could feel his heart shatter into a million pieces. As he wanted to turn away, Kuroo suddenly got eye contact with him. Kuroo's eyes had looked at him with such shock. This wasn't how it was supposed to go. Not at all.
"Kenma-" Kuroo said faintly. That had made Kenma come back to his senses. He grabbed his bag and made a run for it, tears flowing down his cheeks.
"Kenma!" Was the last thing he could hear before he had reached the main hallway again. Kenma felt everyone staring at him as he ran for the exit. He couldn't stand being there anymore.
No, no, no! He hadn't been this active in forever. His breath was sharp and quick, and he was getting lightheaded. But all he wanted was to get away.
