Mother and Father

March 14th, 1987

Do you ever just look at your parents and wonder how did they ever get together?

Did the universe plan for it or did your parents take matters into their own hands and said screw what the universe thought?

Those thoughts ran through Aspen's head as she stared down at her mother.

Uncle Lucius had taken her right out of school once mid-term exams were over, claiming someone had died.

Dumbledore and McGonagall didn't say anything to them especially after Roxanne went to the Daily Prophet herself and declared to the entire wizarding world she wasn't dead.

Uncle Lucius was furious and had gone personally to see Oscar and invite him back to the manor so they may all speak with Roxanne.

Aspen has never seen her parents together. Only stories of how they were so in love with each other. She begged her Aunt to let her have Bill with them. She didn't want to be alone.

So when the door opened and in stepped her favorite red hair Aspen grinned as she ran down the stairs and threw herself in Bill's arms.

"Aspen, at least let me try to get out of the way first." Her Uncle said with a soft smile as Bill pressed a kiss to Aspen's forehead.

"Sorry Uncle. Is Dad on his way?"

"Just received his owl. He should be arriving via the fireplace in ten minutes. William, would you care for tea?"

Bill stood there shocked that Lucius has addressed him before nodding.

"I would love some. Sitting room correct?"

"The gold one. Narcissa is there now so you may join her if you wish."

Bill nodded before he squeezed Aspen's hand and followed her Aunt's elf Effie to the sitting room.

"What is she doing?" Aspen whispered as she watched her mother stare into space.

"Doing what Roxanne knows best. Causing trouble."

The fireplace lit up and Aspen watched as her mother jumped to her feet.

Out stepped Oscar holding a small bouquet in his arms.

"Dad!" Aspen said as she stepped forward and Oscar grinned.

"There's my girl! These are for you and your Aunt. You both still love carnations right?" He asked as he laid them in Aspen's arm.

"Yes. Uh, dad-" She began before he looked over her shoulder and saw Roxanne.

"Oscar," Roxanne said as she stepped forward.

Aspen watched her father's eyes widen a bit before he sighed.

"Roxanne, what have you done?" He whispered and she watched her mother flinch for a moment.

"The gold drawing room is where we will be discussing everything. Do you remember the way right, Oscar?" Lucius asked and he nodded as he quickly turned and led the way. Aspen rushed to follow her father trying to trip as she ran.

Her aunt smiled when she saw her father and stood up to greet him.

"Oscar, you look hungry. Care for some sandwiches or I can have the elves make you something?" She offered but Oscar shook his head.

"No thank you, Narcissa. Tea is perfectly fine."

Aspen handed the flowers over to an elf before sitting in between her Aunt and Bill. Her Uncle took the head seat and Oscar sat right beside him forcing Roxanne to take the last seat across from her brother.

"Well, this is, unfortunately, the way we must all meet now. Oscar, I apologize for not telling you first my sister was alive. It was a lot for me personally, as well as Aspen, but you loved her too. You did deserve to know from family and not reporters." Lucius said and Oscar smiled softly.

"I thought I'd never heard the day you called me family Lucius. But I agree. You all should've told me. I mean Oliver knew before me. And wasn't writing home because he himself didn't know how to tell me." Oscar said and Aspen sat up.

"I told Oliver not to write. I wanted to be the one to tell you, dad, it's just, how the hell could I? I mean my entire life I thought my mother was dead and that my father was in prison. Then I find out you're my real father and then she was alive."

"I am your mother Aspen. " Roxanne hissed and Aspen shot her a look.

"Right now you are a stranger who has been causing nothing but stress. Why did you go to the Daily Prophet? Why did you not wait for one of us?" Aspen hissed back and Bill reached to pull her back.

A look crossed Roxanne's face before she uncrossed her legs and sat up.

"Because everyone has believed I was dead. Like you just said! I needed people to know what lovely Abigail Rosier did to me. I wanted her to pay."

"No one can find my wife. Not even her parents." Oscar said as he finally faced his first love. His true love.

"How could you Roxi? All these years I understand for thirteen years being held captive. But those other years you didn't contact your brother. You didn't even contact me!"

Aspen flinched into Bill's arms as she heard her father yell.

"I loved you since I was fourteen I was willing to fight your father for you! I was ready to get you away from the Sacred Twenty-Eight!" He snapped as he placed his teacup down.

"And you laughed as if it was a game to play with my heart. You said you couldn't escape and what was love to Purebloods. So I gave up and watch you marry Alexander. I gave up and married Abigail. Then the rumor your first child was mine happened and I was ready to leave Abigail for you."

"What?" Aspen asked but her Aunt shook her head.

"I had my bags packed. My letter is ready for her to find. But no, you denied everything for ten months! And then your letter!"

"I GET IT!" Roxanne screamed and Bill sat up and in front of Aspen as if to protect her.

"I get it, I get it. I fucked up. I know I did. I did everything to protect everyone! I married Alexander to hide Aspen and have protection even if it was dark protection. I lied for years and it's all catching up to me." She said as she stood up.

"I loved you, Oscar. Whether you believe me or not. But I refused to be my father and Druella Black. Loving one another even in their marriages to other people."

Aspen watched her Aunt stare at her mother before shaking her head.

"It kills me knowing the pain I caused to everyone. Especially my daughter. Who won't even call me mum? Who won't share things for me."

Aspen looked towards Bill who nodded softly

"You have caused nothing but pain and hurt for me. That is why I will not call you mother. That is why I will not share things with you. In school, everyone stares at me. I'm the girl whose mother faked her death. I'm the daughter of the crazy Roxanne Malfoy. All because you couldn't keep your mouth shut."

"Aspen-"

"Shut up! For once can you just shut up! Don't you ever get tired of hearing your own voice? You've caused nothing but pain! because you need all of this attention!"

Narcissa reached for Aspen's hand and gave it a squeeze causing Roxanne to glare at her.

"Please, you've caused enough damage. Maybe with my father, you could fix it. But with me, your daughter and heir, I don't wanna fix it anymore."

Aspen stood up and Bill followed her lead.

"I don't wanna know you anymore."
