God, even Peter is a better candidate than you

"What were you guys talking about when Peter came up to you yesterday in class?" Remus asked his best friend, Olivia. "You guys looked kinda... guilty."

Ollie, popping another piece of chocolate in her mouth, replied, "I don't even know. Random shit, probably." Remus nodded, only half-believing this lie. She hardly ever lied to her friend, but when she did, it was either because she wanted to surprise him, or she was embarrassed beyond belief.

"Oh. How much of your Christmas shopping have you got done? We're going to Hogsmeade tomorrow," Remus said. "And we only have about three weeks before holiday."

"I've gotten about halfway done," she answered, "what about you?"

"About two-thirds," Ollie's best friend responded. "Should we stay for the holidays or...?"

"Well... I think I wanna stay this year. My dad has finally figured out owl post, and Darrien has been... A bitch. I don't wanna deal with him," Olivia replied. Darrien, her Squib cousin, stayed over often for the holidays. This cousin was a spontaneous decision by the Author who wanted Ollie to have two good & wholesome parents. He does not need a faceclaim and the Author refuses to give the readers one.

"You say it like he's not usually a- a dickhead," Remus pointed out. This was true- this guy was one of the most irritating people Remus, Olivia, Peter, James, and Sirius had ever met.

"Well, he used to make these... these jokes that were awful but oh well whatever, you know?" the girl said, fiddling with the hem of her coat. "But then they started to go too far. I mean, yeah two people of the same sex liking each other like that is gross and weird, but they're still people."

Remus looked... uncomfortable to say the least. "That's terrible. I'll write to mum and say we'll be staying. Then we can get Sirius and James to stay. Peter probably wants to stay anyway, but I'll talk to him."

Olivia nodded. "I'll get Sirius and James," she said. Just then, a voice popped in her ear.

"Get us what?" James asked, putting half his weight on Ollie's shoulders. Sirius flopped - prettily - onto the sofa, his head landing in Ollie's lap.

"Get you to stay for the holidays. So we can steal your mum's presents for you two and make sure they're up to standard," Ollie responded, jokingly.

Sirius laughed, and Olivia followed up in a less jesting tone, "Seriously, guys. I'm staying - because Darrien - and Remus is staying - because he's in love with me - and I wouldn't be able to bear this without you."

Remus looked offended, and said so as well. "You think I could be in love with you?! God, even Peter is a better candidate than you, and he's a guy. And kind of an idiot."

"I beg to differ," Sirius replied. "Ollie is actually not completely repulsive to look at-"

"Thanks?"

"- not an idiot at all, is actually pretty funny, and is really good at slapping me when I go too far, like, when I put my head in her lap and start talking about how nice and-"

Ollie slapped her friend, shutting him up. "I'm only teasing him, you little shit," she jokingly scolded Sirius.

"And I'm just teasing you," Sirius said, sitting up.

James piped up, "Well, I mean, of the girls in this year, Ollie's not the ugliest, or the dumbest. That Danielsson girl is, though." The quintet laughed, because Jocelyn Danielsson was not a very pretty girl, her straight blonde hair and brown eyes not doing her any visual favors. She was abnormally tall and abnormally thin. She also had the worst marks in their year.

"That's pretty mean, James," Remus said. "Danielsson isn't that bad. She's really nice."

"She's only nice because she thinks you're cute, Remus," Sirius pointed out. "Can't say she's wrong." He looked at Olivia when he said that, and she put her hand on his head.

"Sirius, I don't think Remus is the cutest guy I'm friends with. It sure as hell isn't Peter or James, either," she replied, smirking. Sirius's cheeks flushed slightly, and he started to laugh, making everyone around them laugh.

That evening, sitting in the same place as earlier that afternoon, Olivia couldn't stop replaying that moment in her mind. She often jokingly mentioned how Sirius was way prettier than the rest of them, but she never thought twice about it. But for some reason, it kept bothering her today. Shaking off the slight nausea, she tediously climbed the stairs to the girls' dormitories.
