Only the truth

Ollie had had a bad experience last time she accompanied a boy to the courtyard around the side of the castle. That boy was Remus, and they'd simply been on a walk when they stumbled upon Sirius and Ava making out. That was an awkward stint in her friendship with the former couple.

But as she sat under that very tree this cloudy September afternoon, that moment didn't even cross her mind. Because she wasn't in that secluded spot alone to recall unpleasant memories. She was there with her own boy, not Remus or Sirius or one of the other Marauders.

Ollie was sitting under that tree with a certain Ravenclaw seventh-year by the name Pierre Lavigne. The two were laughing about some story Ollie was telling about her sister from when she was young.

Although neither had asked the other on a date, and neither proclaimed it was one, this meeting certainly felt like a date. Two teenagers, laughing and smiling together. Maybe Ollie was sitting a little too close to Pierre. Maybe their hands were touching more than necessary. Maybe they were too happy together.

Neither were particularly dressed up for this not-date. Ollie wore the cherry blossom sweater she'd gotten last Christmas from Sirius with a pair of bell bottom jeans. Her short hair blew around in the breeze, but she hardly even noticed how messy it was getting. Pierre was wearing his House sweater with a collared shirt underneath and some khakis. He had a beat-up brown jacket on as well, and a schoolboy's hat atop his curls.

Both were dressed how they would have had they not been spending that time alone together. However, maybe she wouldn't have applied that one extra layer of lipgloss when they sat down, and maybe he wouldn't have straightened his jacket and collar while the two walked.

"Would you like to go inside? The sky looks like it may rain soon," Pierre suggested, glancing away from the girl he was talking to and at the grey clouds.

"I suppose that would be a good idea," Ollie said, following the boy's baby blue eyes to the sky.

He stood up, cracking his back quickly before helping Ollie get up. Not that she needed the assistance, but who was she to deny a perfect gentleman?

And what a perfect gentleman Pierre was being; the pair walked away from the alcove where they had stowed away and towards the castle proper. While they walked through the tree-lined path, Pierre's prediction of rain proved to be true.

The first few droplets came down shyly, as if testing to see how the ground was before a steady downfall began. It wasn't violent or excessive, but it wasn't the most pleasant conditions to walk in. Ollie didn't mind the rain one bit. But Pierre still removed his jacket as soon as the rain really started to pick up.

He draped it around Ollie's shoulders carefully. "I wouldn't want you to catch a cold," he said, both of them picking up their pace as they returned to the castle, a damp bundle of giggles.

"Thank you," Ollie said, shrugging off Pierre's jacket once they were inside, handing it back to him and trying oh so hard to not focus on the lingering scent that Pierre seemed to carry with him.

Pierre took back his jacket, trying just as hard not to focus on the gentle brushing of Ollie's fingers against his own. "You're more than welcome," he replied.

The two stood in the corridor in an awkward silence. "I should head back to Gryffindor Tower," Ollie said, cursing herself internally with every word. Don't leave, you idiot. Don't excuse yourself. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

"And I should probably go back to Ravenclaw Tower," Pierre echoed, his mind berating him for every word falling out of his mouth. Why aren't you inviting her to stay? To meet up later at least? Stupid, stupid, stupid.

"Yeah." Ollie looked down while she paused. "James will freak out if I don't get back soon." What the hell are you doing?i

Pierre had no clue why that boy with the long hair, Sirius, seemed to dislike him so. Especially since the other three boys Ollie was so often around seemed to like him quite a bit, even that James Potter. Why would Sirius dislike him while James adored him?

It simply didn't make sense. James didn't view Pierre as a threat to his relationship, or if he did he was good at hiding it. But Sirius and Ollie didn't have anything going on; of course, Pierre could see the two cared about each other a lot, but shouldn't any group of best friends care about each other? Perhaps Sirius was just being protective of his friend; Pierre could respect that.

Still, Pierre nodded at Ollie's statement. "As much as I would like to, I shouldn't steal you away forever," he said, Ollie's slightly sad smile turning into a sweet one. "Here, I'll walk you back. If you'd like, of course." Ask her on a real date, you dimwit!

"I'd like that very much, thank you," Ollie replied. Just ask him out already, god damn it! Pierre held his arm out for her, and she took it before the two set off toward Gryffindor Tower.

When they arrived, Ollie dropped his arm, and the two stood outside of the portrait hole. "I had a lovely time," Ollie said quickly. Say more, you idiot.

"As did I," Pierre replied. Ask her out, ask her out, you moron! "As per usual when I'm with you."

Ollie could hold back the giggle that induced. "Oh, you flatter me," she said.

"Only the truth," he said, grinning. Merlin's balls, just ask her out, Pierre.

"Well, thanks for hanging out with me," Ollie said. "And for walking me here. You're really sweet, Pierre." Why have neither of us asked the other out yet?

"It was my pleasure," Pierre said, bowing his head momentarily. Pierre Lavigne, don't screw this up. "I'd like to do it again sometime."

Ollie's emerald eyes lit up. "That sounds wonderful," she replied, maybe just a bit too quickly. "How about tomorrow afternoon?"

"Sounds great," Pierre responded, beaming. "I'll see you then. Good night."

"See you then," Ollie replied. "Good night, Pierre." With that, she said the password to the Fat Lady, and stepped inside the common room. The door shut behind her and she let out the breath she hadn't realized she was holding. And as she walked over to the couch where her other boys were sitting, she couldn't push back the huge grin after wasting away those hours with Pierre.
