The next morning, Ollie woke up feeling light. As usual, she was the first one up in her dorm, and as usual she went into the small bathroom attached to their dorm, and as usual, she took a hot shower. As she undressed in the mirror, she noticed something on her collarbone.
It was a reddish-purple spot. A bruise? She touched it gently, with no pain. It wasn't a bruise. Then, the memory of the previous evening hit her like a tidal wave. Olivia got in the shower, hoping it would melt her away and down the drain.
She couldn't believe that she had done that. That she had let it happen. That she didn't stop herself. Ollie let the hot water run down her back while she washed her body. She rinsed her soft skin, wishing the shame would go with the suds.
She stepped out of the hot water, drying off and putting on a T-shirt she'd snatched from Remus's trunk. She slipped on a pair of jeans she'd seen in a Muggle mall with her sister, and brushed her teeth. She brushed her hair, leaving it down. She left the bathroom silently, putting on her shoes in the bedroom area.
Once she was somewhat presentable, she pattered downstairs, greeted by a shocking sight. James Potter, awake and functioning at six-thirty in the morning?
"Morning, James," Ollie said, her voice a little bit raspier than usual.
James looked at her, hurt. He snapped, "Morning, Ollie. Sleep well?"
Ollie sat next to him. "Quite. How about you?"
"Remus told me."
Shit. "O-Oh?"
James glared at Ollie. "He said that he got up at around one a.m. and Sirius wasn't in his bed, so he went down to check on him and see that he got to bed alright, and you guys were- you and Sirius-"
"Were snogging."
"Yes. He said you guys were snogging and he thought that if he'd waited much longer to come in and check, he'd find you two shagging."
Olivia was shocked at this revelation. "No. We wouldn't. Ever. Not- no. We were snogging, yeah, but we weren't going to shag. I can promise you that much."
James looked a little bit relieved. "I need you to be honest with me, Ollie. Do you like Sirius?"
Ollie tried to look James in the eye, but found that she couldn't. "I don't know."
"If you could, would you kiss him again? Would you let him kiss you?"
Ollie looked at James. She spoke with a certain fragility in her voice. "Probably."
"Well then."
"James, please don't be upset with us. We were talking, just talking. About earlier. And it sort of- happened. It just happened, and I don't think either of us could have stopped it, even if we wanted to." Olivia never begged for something like this. She might say a quick please, and accept whatever answer she got, but this, she couldn't let go of. "Please."
"As long as you guys don't break up and split us apart, we'll be fine. You guys- You guys seem to have a thing for each other."
"That's a fair point."
"I think it'll be alright if you two start, like, dating. As long you don't split up and make us choose sides."
"I think we can do that," Ollie replied, feeling better about the night before.
"And no shagging," James added. "Please, no shagging."
"Don't worry your pretty little head about that, Potter. We won't. I promise," Ollie swore, reaching over and ruffling her friend's hair. Just then, Remus came downstairs, groggy and with slightly slurred speech.
"Morning," he said, yawning.
Ollie's morning energy paired with James's tensity immediately overwhelmed him. "Good morning, Remus, darling. What brings you up at- seven in the morning?" Olivia greeted him, her voice rich like melted caramel.
"Bestowing upon you the consequences of your actions," Remus replied, as though he hadn't gotten out of bed ten minutes prior.
"Well, Remus, isn't that just fine and dandy. The consequences of my actions are that I'm allowed to date Sirius, so long as it tear the group apart." Remus's jaw dropped.
"I- And I thought you'd- Wow," he concluded.
Sirius had always been sort of a morning person. To nobody's surprise, he was soon downstairs with the other three, in a collared shirt and khakis. The attire was the shocking part; Olivia hadn't even known he owned khakis. He certainly didn't like to wear them.
"Whoa, there, why are you all dressed up?" she said, eyeing him up and down.
"I'm going to ask out this Slytherin girl. Her name is Ava. She's perfect," Sirius began gushing. "She's gorgeous, and she has a really nice jaw. Ava Parkinson."
"That's Josephine's friend," Ollie said, recognizing the name. "She's pretty cool, I guess."
Sirius agreed, and rushed out to meet her in the Great Hall to ask the other fifth year out on a date. Olivia watched him go, slightly suspicious.
"So much for you and Sirius, I guess," Remus pointed out. "I wonder why he's so suddenly into her."
"Whatever. He can date her. It's not my business," Ollie said, feeling her throat compress. "I think we ought to head to breakfast. Well, I'm leaving. I'll just meet up with Marlene and Lily and Mary there. Maybe Dorcas, too."
"Dorcas? Isn't she in Regulus's year?" James asked.
"Oh, yeah, I could say hi to Regulus. He's pretty sweet, actually. See you," Ollie said, ruffling James's hair and pecking Remus on the tip of his nose. She walked hastily out of the common room and down to the Great Hall.
