"Hey, um, Ava," Sirius said, stumbling over his words. A very pretty brunette girl turned around. She was average in height, shorter than Josephine on her left, but taller than Valerie on her right. Her eyes had a mischievous glimmer, the dark irises showing more emotion than her face. Her hair was only just dark enough to qualify her as a brunette. It was a light, gentle brown, a sharp contrast to her face. She had a very defined jawline, and a nose just as sharp.
"Hi, um, Sirius Black?" she answered, genuine confusion flowing from her voice. She sounded kind of like Ollie, except her voice was deeper, fuller, and more enunciated. "Not to be rude or anything, but, like, why are you talking to me?"
"I was wondering if, um, you wanted to like, hang out with me," Sirius replied, his words a jumbled mess. Ava looked slightly shocked.
Unlike most of the girls in the school, Ava Parkinson did not want to date Sirius Black. She liked someone else, and her sights set on that person. Her friend, Valerie, had advised she give the object of her affections a box of chocolates, and yet, despite Ava's efforts, Sirius showed instead. She didn't know what to say. Say no, and crush this poor boy's heart? She couldn't. She didn't want Sirius, James, Remus, Peter, or Olivia to hate her. They would destroy her chances with the one person she wanted.
Not knowing what to say, Ava panicked. "Sure, that sounds great," she said. She would just let it fizzle out naturally. Besides, this might make her love jealous. Although, Ava hoped that it wouldn't backfire.
Sirius looked ecstatic; he felt wonderful, too. However, there was a tiny nagging voice in the back of his head telling him that he didn't want this. The hazy bliss kicked that tiny voice in the stomach.
"Cool. Next weekend?"
Ava looked at him incredulously. "We don't have school until January. The train leaves Tuesday. I can do tomorrow, though."
Sirius and Ava made plans to meet on Monday, at lunch, and go out on the grounds in the afternoon. After they agreed on everything, Sirius went to go get breakfast.
Ava turned on Valerie. "Val, what did you do?" she demanded.
"I may or may not have laced the chocolates with love potion," Valerie admitted.
"You- You mean Amortenia?" Josephine said in disbelief. "How did you even get it?"
Valerie explained that she had stolen it from Slughorn's classroom. "It wasn't supposed to go to Sirius, though!"
"Well, yeah, no shit," Ava snapped. "If anyone finds out about this, you are so dead. I am not taking any blame for this."
Josephine agreed immediately, "And I had no part in it, either. We won't take this fall for you, Val."
"I know," Valerie replied.
Amortenia. Just a week and a half before, Ava remembered what they had done in Potions. "Amortentia, sir," Lily had responded to Slughorn's question. "Often dubbed a 'love potion,' it causes obsession and desire for another individual." Ava couldn't remember how long it lasted, but she thought it was about a month. She had a month before Sirius would inevitably leave.
Thank God.

Meanwhile, at the far end of the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall, Olivia sat with Marlene, gossiping.
"So, why are you here? You normally are with the guys," Marlene asked. Ollie shrugged.
"Sometimes I need a break. Sirius has got a new girl," she explained. "Ava Parkinson."
"Oh. She's pretty. Cool. She's pretty cool. Um," Marlene answered, her composure crumbling at the edges.
"Yeah, I know, but I don't like that she's suddenly caught Sirius's eye. I mean, it's pretty sudden," Ollie replied. "Like, just last night-" She cut herself off.
Marlene caught it, though. She pressed on, "Last night what? You came up pretty late, you know."
"I- It's not- It doesn't matter. We were just, er, hanging out."
"You two shagged, didn't you?"
Ollie looked shocked at her friend. "Marlene!"
Marlene giggled. "You did, didn't you?"
"No, we didn't."
"Oh really? Then describe the 'hanging out.'"
Ollie decided to swallow her pride. "We were, basically, um, well, you see, we, er-"
"Snogging?"
Ollie nodded. "It was nice, if I'm going to be honest with myself."
"So, you and Sirius spend the night snogging (and probably shagging, even if you deny it), and then the next day he's infatuated with Parkinson. Interesting," Marlene concluded. "You know, about a week ago, Ava gave me a bit of chocolate."
"Was that the same chocolate you gave me?"
Marlene nodded. "Did you give it to Sirius? She might've done something to it. Probably a sick prank."
"I did give it to Sirius. Remus prefers milk chocolate."
"Weird. Dark chocolate is the best," Marlene said.
"That's what I'm saying," Ollie affirmed. She could tell that Marlene was trying to distract her from her problems and that it totally wasn't just to build tension.
The girls began a passionate conversation about different chocolates and how obviously dark chocolate was the best. But milk chocolate was pretty good, of course Remus liked it. Lily joined in, insistent that milk chocolate was better. Mary argued that white chocolate was all right, too. Dorcas Meadowes, a fourth year who had a crush on Regulus Black, thought that if it was chocolate, she was happy.
Over an extravagant breakfast, the Gryffindor girls discussed many topics, but luckily never returned to Sirius and Ava.

A/N: Well, then, I know doesn't build a ton of tension in the plot when I literally tell you what's happening, but it's called Dramatic Irony, when the readers know something the characters don't. Anyway, kind of short chapter, but whatever. Hope you liked and ily! -Cat
