It was 4:01 AM when the boys were awoken to a pounding on their door. Remus groggily got up to open it, only to see Ollie standing there, hair disheveled and in one of Pierre's shirts, clutching a letter in her shaking hand.
She was grinning like she'd just gotten good news, and she grabbed Remus's hand and pulled both of them into the room. James fumbled in the dark for his wand, using it to light a lamp.
"I can stay with you guys over Christmas!" Ollie exclaimed. "And Pierre can come to the party!"
It was Potter tradition to throw a party on Christmas Eve, with food and dancing and games. Every year, the Potters' rich friends and relatives would be invited. So would their magical neighbors and, as soon as James was in school, all of James's friends were invited too.
James's closest friends were allowed to stay with the Potters, but usually Ollie's mother would block her from going, so they would stay at Hogwarts and only leave for the party. But this year, since Ollie was almost an adult, her mother had granted permission.
"That's amazing!" James said, catching Ollie as she threw herself onto his bed. "I'll write my mum right now."
"Your mum's letting you stay with us?" Sirius asked, propping himself on one elbow. "And you invited Pierre?"
"I know, I couldn't believe it either!" Ollie grinned. "And of course I invited Pierre, he's my boyfriend?"
"Yeah, but it's a friends thing. Usually there aren't boyfriends and girlfriends there," Sirius said, frowning slightly.
"Because none of us had boyfriends or girlfriends before," Remus interjected. "It makes sense Pierre would be there."
"I guess you're right," Sirius huffed.
"Okay, I'll send this to Mum in the morning," James said, folding up the letter he'd scrawled on a piece of parchment. "I'm so glad we only have one more day of exams left."
"I can't wait to be done with Potions," Ollie said, getting up and going to the door. "I should get dressed, there's no use going back to sleep now."
"Alright, we'll see you later then," James said, taking his glasses off and throwing his covers back on him.

Pierre lugged his and Ollie's trunks behind him as they walked through Hogsmeade station while Ollie carried Cinnabon in his basket. He hauled them onto the train and dragged them to an empty compartment. Since it was the holiday train home, it was much less crowded than normal.
Soon, the Marauders shuffled into the compartment, joined by Marlene and Ava and Lily and Volkov. It was crowded, but they made it work.
"Dude, Slughorn kicked my ass with that Potions final," Lily said, perched on her boyfriend's lap. "I don't know how I did so well on my OWLs."
"You did well because you're, like, a super genius," Marlene said, taking a drag of her cigarette. It was a habit she'd picked up over the summer. "You're like that Muggle guy, Albert Einstein."
"I am nothing like Einstein," Lily scoffed. "Don't even get me started on the Transfiguration final."
"There's no way I passed that final," James said. "I swear, McGonagall might not let me keep her class at this point."
"You're really smart," Pierre said. "Both of you. You probably did fine."
The group chattered about school and the party until the Hogwarts Express arrived at King's Cross station.
Pierre pushed the trolley with his and Ollie's belongings through the station until they found Euphemia Potter. She embraced Ollie in a warm hug and patted Pierre's shoulder.
"It's so good to see you, Olivia," she said. "And you must be the boyfriend?"
"Oui, madame," Pierre said, putting his arm around Ollie. "You're Mrs. Potter, right?"
"Why indeed I am! Oh, James wrote and told me you're coming for our Christmas party?"
"Well, of course," Ollie said. "We're really excited."
"My mother is probably waiting for me, I should get going," Pierre said. He lifted Cinnabon's covered basket off of his trunk and pulled it to the ground. "It was lovely meeting you, Mrs. Potter."
"It's nice to meet you, too, Pierre," Mrs Potter said.
"Ah, bye then," Pierre said, giving Ollie a quick kiss before scurrying off to his mother. His little brother was already standing next to the woman, glaring at Ollie.
Ollie waved to Pierre's mother. She scowled at her, and when Pierre got to her, she gripped his shoulder and dragged him away.
"Hey, mum," James said, pulling a cart with his and Sirius's trunks.
"Oh James, hello dear," Mrs. Potter said, kissing her son on the top of his forehead.
"Hi, Pheemie," Sirius said, and Mrs. Potter pulled him into a hug as well.
"Sirius, honey," she said, squeezing him like a boa constrictor.
"Mummy, let him breathe," James said, lugging his trunk to the ground.
Mrs. Potter loosened her grip on the boy. "Are Remus and Peter staying with us?"
"I think so, I don't know what's taking them so long." James looked around the station. "Did they tell you where they went?"
"I think Remus wanted to meet up with someone," Sirius said. "Pete should be with him."
"Mrs. Potter!" Peter's squeaky voice cheered, and the boy leapt into the woman's warm embrace. "Thank you for letting us stay with you."
Remus was not far behind, dragging another cart behind him. He gave Mrs. Potter a tired smile. "Mrs. Euphemia," he said, his voice heavy with exhaustion. "How do you do?"
"Oh, you two," Mrs. Potter said, moving in to give Remus a motherly hug. "It seems we're all here, no? Shall we go?"
