Sabo's POV

I walked up the gangway, slightly dejected about what happened.

"Hey kid, you find Ace?" The captain looked at me as I made my way up.

I stared at the floor, thinking about what to do next. "Captain, after this trip, what are you doing?" I asked him.

He gave a confused glare. "What do you mean?"

I stepped towards him. "After you take me to Alabasta, what would you do next?"

The captain, bewildered, decided to tell anyway. "Well...I recently got a bunch of money for trips like these, after yours was finished, I was gonna sail off and adventure with my crew. I wanted to make sure that we had a bunch of money before running off."

"Is that all? Right now you're completely okay with leaving Goa Kingdom?" I asked, placing my hands on his shoulders.

"Yes, why do you ask?" The captain said with concern.

The moment I heard those words, I knew what I had to do. Right then and there I looked to the horizon. All that there was before me was a vast ocean with calming sapphire waves. There was a nice breeze, it was humid yet cold.

As I stared out, I thought about the idea once more in my mind. I asked myself if something like this could even be aloud.

"Captain..."

"I want to join you!"

The captain's eyes widened as his body became stiff. He was in shock at the words that spat out of my mouth. When we first met he never would've expected those words from me. I'm sure my past self definitely wouldn't believe it either.

"R-run me by that again? You said you wanted to join me?!" He shouted puzzled.

"Yeah, you already saw that letter, didn't you? My dad left me as soon as I didn't make him happy. So why should I marry this princess in the first place?!What's the point of doing what he wants if all he cares about is his status?!" I stated.

The captain was still in shock. He couldn't believe what I was saying.

"After you and Ace taught me about fun and the rest of the world, It's almost like I've opened my eyes for the first time. I don't think I've ever been as emotional as I was during this trip. Which is why I wanna join you and your crew." I explained, turning to him with a smile.

"I-I don't know what to say..." He spoke at a loss.

I walked towards him stilling grinning. "I want to get stronger, so we can adventure together on the Grand Line!"

He looked away. "Why the sudden change, you've been told your whole life that people like us are under you. Now one letter from your dad and you suddenly want to venture in the Grand Line?!"

I sighed, my smile slightly fading.

"My dad and mom have always told me that getting married to a princess will make me happy. It's why I was so eager to go on this trip. I told you before I did this for my brother, so he can be happy with his princess." I spoke in a serious tone.

"Now that my father is disowning me because I can't get along with some girl I don't know, It really shows how much he cares about me. He can say that he just wanted Stelly to be happy, but I know that's not it."

The captain walked towards me. "How do you know?"

I looked to the captain, clenching my fists. "The way he worded his letter."

"We cannot tarnish our family's reputation, you know that don't you?"

"In order to keep the family's name intact, we're gonna have to get rid of you for a little while."

"He made it pretty clear what he wanted. It only took ten years to realize, but better later than never I guess." I sighed.

The captain still stared at me, amazed at my lecture. "So, you actually want to join me on the Grand Line?"

"Yeah! All I need is your consent." I replied, now turning to him.

We both grinned at each other, we already knew what he was gonna say.

The captain spoke. "When we first met, I expected you to be some stuck up, selfish asshole the whole trip through. The more you, Ace, and I hung out, the more I realized how wrong I was. I'm not saying you weren't a stuck up selfish asshole..."

I gave him an angry look.

"But, you changed! Despite everything in your life, you made it through!" He quickly switched up.

"I'm proud of you, kid." He placed him hand on my shoulder.

I sighed and grinned with him. "I promise I'll try my best." I vowed.

"Welcome to the crew, Sabo."

That day I was officially added to the captains crew. Once the news broke out to the rest of the members, most were overjoyed I would be staying with them. As much as I wanted to tell Ace about me, It wasn't the time yet. Especially since I have no clue where he is. For now, I'll get stronger for both Ace and Luffy.

"Wait for me brothers! We'll meet again I swear it!"
