chapter 9 - Breaking the first rule

If you have to sneak to do it, lie to cover it up, or delete it to avoid being seen then you probably shouldn't be doing it. He knew that, Sapnap knew that and yet they were still sneaking out in the dead of night to hunt down a laboratory beyond the borders of the smp itself.

"Puffy is going to kill us if she finds out that we're doing this" Tommy said as they walked along the boundary of the dream smp.

"Puffy will kill you, not me" Sapnap joked. Tommy smiled, this was exciting and the feeling of adventuring beyond the dream smp was an amazing thrill. But he couldn't shake the feeling of unease. "Do you see anything familiar yet?" Sapnap asked.

"It's been years Sapnap, since I've even thought about where I actually came from, and you think that the second that we are at the boundary I'll magically know exactly what direction we should go to find a lab that I'm not even sure still exists." Tommy snapped, although his tone was playful.

"Actually, now that you mention it. How did you even get to the dream smp?" Sapnap asked as they continued to walk the border. He could see a building that was definitely made by Foolish in the distance. Tommy's mind reeled back years.

"Um, I don't really remember. I think I was like six, maybe even five. All the faces were fuzzy. But I remember my room was left unlocked and I guess I sort of wandered out" he said. As the massive sandstone building blocked the view of their path. Tommy's stomach suddenly dropped. "Sapnap," he said quietly. He looked over to Tommy

"Yeah?"

"I think we should start heading out this way," he said, pointing out to the bare desert. Sapnap started to head in the direction Tommy pointed to. The blonde followed suit, "what about you, where were you before the dream smp?" Sapnap eyes sparkled in the night sky.

"Well, I grew up with my dad and his best friend. My godfather" he said, his tone was soft.

"Bad and Skeppy?" Tommy asked. Sapnap nodded

"It was, I would hang out with George and Dream most of the time." Sapnap trailed off.

"What were they like back then?" Tommy asked, Sapnap let out a small huff of a laugh. Someone was interested in him for once. Not Dream, not George him.

"When we were your age. We would sneak out at night and throw snowballs at each other. Hiding from mobs and learning to fight, Dream was actually a lot like you. He was very different from what he is now, " he said. Looking at Tommy. Heck the kid even looked like him, they both had that curiosity. Tommy listened intently to Sapnap as he continued.

"I remember Bad let me go on a voyage with Dream and Puffy, it was the first time I met Foolish too. George had to come along of course. It was a week of chaos, I guess we got our first taste for trouble then. I ended up getting into so many brawls, it caused a fight between me and dad" he paused. "I mean Bad".

We have more in common than I thought. Tommy realised Sapnap too had lost his friends and family due to these wars.

The only difference was Sapnap actually had a family, he reminded himself.

Sapnap and Tommy continued a little in silence.

"How did you meet Punz?" Tommy asked finally. Sapnap grinned.

"Mercenary training. About a year before the Smp was established. He was a lot higher up in the ranks than I was. He and Purpled definitely spent a lifetime training in this academy"

"There's an academy!" Tommy yelled.

Sapnap nodded "maybe one day, maybe. I'll get Punz and Purpled to take us there again. I doubt it's still active. But if you really want" he trailed off.

"What want what?" Tommy asked.

"I could give you a couple lessons, because Purpled won't be willing to teach you and the egg has a bit of a hold on Punz as of now"

"The egg is a pussy," Tommy said automatically. Sapnap let out a loud 'HA'.

The two looked out to the horizon seeing the pitch black of the night begin to fade into indigo.

"Puffy is going to kill us," Sapnap said. As the sky faded to oranges and pinks. Then sun peaking over the mass of sandy mountains in front of the two.

"Do you really think we're ready for Dream?" Tommy asked. His enemy's best friend put an arm around him.

"Yeah, I think we are. But do you?"
