Niall: "Niall, honey, get Gabby. We're going down to the village today to see the people," Maura said, peeking her head into the room. Niall nodded, smiling at the maid who was shining his shoes. The girl blushed deeply, giving Niall's shoe one last scrub before standing up.
"Shall I fetch Gabby, Your Highness?" she asked in a small voice.
"Yes, please. Would you?" Niall smiled. The maid nodded, scurrying nervously out of the room so that Niall could get ready for a day in the villlage.
Ten minutes later, Niall and Gabby were walking towards the castle doors where Maura was already waiting, another maid standing close to her holding an umbrella. "Niall, here you are. Do you want to walk or ride the carriage down?"
"Whatever you want, Mum," Niall smiled, kissing her cheek. "Greg and Dad aren't coming?"
Maura shook her head, sighing in exasperation. "No, they said something about wanting to go to the joust. Honestly. And I think I want to ride down today. My ankle's still bothering me from the horse ride I took with Queen Anne last weekend."
"Maybe you should have a physician look at your foot," Niall suggested, signaling the guard at the door to fetch the carriage.
Maura shruged, and Niall sighed, knowing how stubborn his mother could be. The carriage arrived at the front door, and Niall helped his mother in first before assisting the two maids. Hey, just becuase he was a prince didn't mean he couldn't be a gentleman too.
"Niall, do you want to go to the markets and get some fruit for the kitchens? Sarah wants to make a pie soon, and I may have hinted that I would pick up some ingredients so she wouldn't have to come down."
"Yeah, sure, I'll go. Gabby, do you mind?" Gabby shook her head.
"Great! I'll be in the dress shop. I need Miss Julie to hem this one dress of mine before your birthday ball."
"Mum, I told you I didn't want a ball!" Niall protested, and Gabby giggled behind her hand.
"Niall James Horan, you will be getting a birthday ball, and that's final," Maura replied before stepping out of the carriage, motioning for the second maid to follow her.
Niall groaned as the carriage rolled away, and Gabby giggled once more. Niall peered at her from the corner of his eye. "What's so funny, Gab?" he asked.
"You're looking at this the wrong way. Where you see fancy clothes and lots of stuck-up royals, if you don't mind me saying, you should be seeing a chance to meet a great girl and to spend the entire night with her at a romantic ball. Plus, there will be great food," Gabby sung, giving me a smirk as we pulled up to the market.
"You make a good point," Niall said, opening the door and stepping out. The two of them made their way through the market, picking up different fruits and vegetables before finding the head of the market.
"Prince Niall!" the man exclaimed, shocked to see the prince standing before him. "W-What are you doing here? In the village?"
Niall shrugged, offering the man a smile and handing him the food. "Just shopping around."
The man opened his mouth to speak, but his eyes narrowed when he saw Gabby standing next to me. "You," he hissed. Niall felt Gabby tense next to him, and the smile left his face.
"Hi, Dad," she whsipered, and the man's face grew red as he glared at his daughter.
"No, I'm not your father. I stopped being your father when you left to go work in the castle. left your family!"
"I wasn't going to stay anymore," Gabby whispered, her voice shaking.
The man opened his mouth to say something, but he was interrupted by a girl's voice. "Gabby?" I turned to see a younger version of Gabby standing behind me, dirt on her cheek and her hair in a messy ponytail, strands of hair hanging down the side of her face.
