Zayn: Zayn had been on tour for three months now, leaving you and your seventeen-year-old son at home. For the first month, everything was fine, and then things started to go downhill. You suspected that Josh missed his dad, and that that was the reason why he started his bad habit. But whatever the reason was, Josh had seemed to get addicted to smoking while Zayn was away.

Whenever you cleaned his room, you often found packs of cigarettes in his room, scattered around in various hiding places, often half empty. You began to worry, and confronted him about it several times a week. He always just gave you a smile and hugged you, assuring you that everything was fine.

The next couple of months were torture for you. You didn’t know why Josh was smoking, and he would never talk to you about it. You were puzzled. Josh was a good kid. He got decent grades in school, and he was captain of the school’s football/soccer team. He was also an active participant in the school’s choir. You never would have seen this coming.

It was a huge relief when Zayn walked through the door after five months of being away from home. He hugged and kissed you, but his smile quickly faded when he saw the look on your face. “Josh started to smoke,” you told him in a whisper. You watched as Zayn’s eyes widened comically, and he dropped the suitcase he was holding.

“What? Why?!” he demanded. You shrugged, and Zayn left you, knocking on Josh’s door. Josh opened, smiling at once and cheering when he saw it was his father. The smell of smoke drifted over to you, and you coughed a little, waving your hands in front of your face. “Josh, I hear you’re smoking?” Zayn asked, concerned.

Josh looked down at his feet, suddenly shy and ashamed. “Uh, yeah. I kinda can’t stop.”

“Why’d you start in the first place?” you asked weakly, coming to stand next to your husband.

“I don’t know. Some of my friends were all doing it, and I know you smoke sometimes too, Dad. So, in the heat of the moment, I thought it was okay. It was a stupid mistake, I know. But I can’t stop,” he sighed.

“Tell you what. We’re going to quit together, you and I,” Zayn said. “Deal?” Josh nodded eagerly, and your son pulled you all in a group hug.

Louis: Louis and his three-year-old daughter, Lola, were exactly the same, which meant double the trouble for you. The two of them were joined at the hip, and it was obvious that they had a very special father-daughter bond. The two of them often made up silly jokes and played harmless pranks on you and the boys, Lola’s “uncles.”

Louis had been on tour for two months now, and Lola was starting to get a little depressed about not being able to be with him all the time. You tried to distract her a little bit by introducing her to a new hobby, coloring. Lola loved it! She drew funny pictures of you, Louis, and the other boys. Her favorite thing to draw though, was flowers.

The two of you were coloring in the living room when your phone rang from the kitchen. You made sure Lola was okay before you ran to answer it. You talked to your mother on the phone for a couple of minutes before going back to Lola, only to realize that she had begun to draw on the wall instead of on her paper.

“Lola! No!” you shouted, startled at the sight. Lola jumped and turned to smile at you, not realizing her mistake.
