You opened the door and the first thing you heard was the sound of yapping puppies. You stepped in, closing the door behind you.
It wasn't long before you spotted Baji in front of a playpen speaking softly and gently to a cowering puppy.
He let a heavy sigh as he stepped back, sitting on his calves as he seemed to recollect his thoughts, probably to conjure up a way to get through to the small furry creature.
"No progress?" You tilted your head slightly, walking over.
He looked up, gaze hardening slightly. "What are you doing here?"
"Don't get me wrong, I was here for Chifuyu," you said, rolling your eyes. "But I thought you could use some help."
"I don't need your help, you probably know nothing about animals," he scoffed.
You smiled, crouching down next to him. "Don't underestimate me, Baji."
He watched as you reached your hand toward the puppy as it whimpered slightly, cowering away. You shushed it gently, lifting your hand to its nose and allowing it to sniff you.
You waited patiently before his little tail started wagging and he licked your hand adorably. "That's a good boy," you smiled.
"H-How—"
You slowly reached over and pet its head gently before you looked over at him. "I told you not to underestimate me."
He looked away, rolling his eyes as he scoffed. "Yeah yeah, whatever."
"Here," you carefully picked up the puppy, handing it over to him. "I did my part so I leave the little guy to you."
"You shouldn't come back here, you're not welcome," he said harshly.
You sighed, slumping back and sitting criss-cross on the ground beside him. "Why do you hate me so much?"
His expression fell as he looked away from you, swallowing heavily as he mumbled ever so softly. "You should know that."
"Well I don't, so tell me what I did," you tried to reach out and touch his arm but he slapped your hand away.
"Don't touch me— you don't get to touch me as you please. We're not associated with each other and I pray to God we never will be," he spat, getting up and stomping away from you.
You'd be lying if you said that didn't hurt, but if he claims there is a reason then you'd believe him, you just don't know what it is.
Yet.
Maybe Chifuyu might know... or not. Chifuyu is a bit dense so if anything he wouldn't know.
Now on the other hand, Kazutora is probably a more difficult option, but he's most likely to know. The main issue would probably be getting it out of him.
Then again if you used your gang connections it probably wouldn't be an issue, but you were still hiding the fact that you still lived that kind of lifestyle from pretty much everyone outside of Bonten.
Another issue was that you had no connections to Kazutora other than this pet shop and you didn't even know when he'd be in.
Then again you could always ask Chifuyu but based on past conversations it's quite clear that there's no specific schedule for who comes in to manage for the day.
You stood up from the ground, dusting off your pants as you exited the backrooms and emerged back to the front where Chifuyu had a small parrot on his shoulder as he arranged a few canned animal foods on the shelves.
