Walking to the back side of the house where a small forest was. You could see puppies everywhere running around; tripping over their small paws, each other or over roots of the trees. "Oh fuck!!" I mumbled to myself in utter shock of how big this litter was - Harrison heard me. "Aww, what's the matter. I thought you wanted to help?" He said mocking me, looking down at me.
Looking up with a proud smile, "Yes, I am going to help" – looking back at the chaos in front of me of children running after puppies, falling everywhere. " - but I didn't know, I will try to catch a fucking litter of puppies" Harrison chuckled, and we all helped catch the runaway puppies.
The small girl tripped on the tree roots while catching them. The two older lads were trying to grab the pups before they disappeared far into the forest. Harrison and I were corralling a group of puppies in a circle so that we might capture them. When we captured them, we put them in a large cardboard box. After we captured all 12 puppies, I was exhausted. I'm running up and down like a headless bird to capture these babies.
There was one puppy that kept leaping on the side of the box, asking me to take it up. It continued to weep and whine for me. "You can keep one if you want," Harrison said, bending down to whisper in my ear.
I looked at him shocked, then looked at Farmer Brown. "Really?" I said excitedly. "Yes, of course, you can have one, but they are only 10 weeks old. They have to be 12, before we let them go"
The dog was whimpering for me when I picked him up – so I did. He instantly started wagging his thick tail and licking my face. I hugged him, and he snuck under my arm. "I'm going to give him the name Bruce," Harrison smiled.
"Can I see him; Can I see him!!" The small toddler gave a little hop. I knelt down to show the little girl Bruce. "Whoa, I almost forgot to introduce my kids!" Farmer Brown said with a laugh, gesturing to the 16-year-old beside him. "This is Blake." He then placed a hand on his younger son's head. "And this here is Edward."
"And who's this little angel?" I asked, smiling as a dog—Bruce—began licking her face.
Farmer Brown grinned as the little girl giggled. "That's Lily," he said, clearly enjoying the moment.
"Go now, run along. I have to discuss business with them." They all giggled and run into the house – I placed Bruce back into the box, as they took the box with them. "If it's okay for me to ask. Where their mother?" I didn't see her when we came in.
"They do have one, but we got a divorce, a few years back. She takes them to the city, on summer break" I nodded. "How is the printing going?" I questioned.
Muller Brown grows Hay, Wheat and Corn. He as well prints money, in his workshop. The US dollar and the Canadian dollar, with a few of the local farmers we have hired. We have our men come pick it up after every cut and wash them before we distribute them.
"It's going well, the press printer run out of ink and we need to get more hydrogen peroxide and anhydrous ethyl alcohol before we do our next print - " Zoning out of the conversation, I noticed we had a peeping tom, looking at us from behind a tree.
"Hello, Edward" Harrison and Farmer Brown turned around to the tree and saw Edward standing behind a tree, listening in. "How can we help you?" I asked with a welcoming Edward as he stepped out from behind the tree.
"Edward!! I told you to go inside, why you are out here." Farmer Brown said to Edward in a stern tone. "Uhm..I..." He mumbled. "Hey, it is okay! What's wrong?" He is just a 10-year-old kid, I squatted down to Edwards's height.
"I was wondering if you and him – " He pointed at Harrison. " – Can you help us carry the Hay to the tracker," He asked in such a sweet tone. Harrison walked up beside me and squatted down to Edwards's height. "It's alright, we can help."
"Really?" Edwards eyes opened up in excitement and hugged Harrison. I stood up and Farmer Brown mouthed. "Thank you" with a smile, returned it with a nod.
We all walked to the storage unit as Harrison started helping the boys, pick up the hay and taking it to the tracker. "Harrison is good with kids," Farmer Brown spoke. I smiled at Harrison helping them carry hay. It's so cute how he giggles and smiles with them. "Yes, he is." Knowing Harrisons history compared to mine, destroying families that have crossed the line; we have never meant harm to kids – but whatever means necessary can cause a lot of youthful guilt. Yet, being away from that type of lifestyle. We have become normal.
Farmer Brown's little girl came up to me, beaming with a big, beautiful smile. She wore a pink tutu and fairy wings, looking every bit like a tiny princess.
"Hey, Princess," I said, squatting down to her level.
"Are you Harrison's girlfriend?" she asked, her innocent eyes wide with curiosity.
My face instantly flushed, my cheeks growing warm. I couldn't help the huge grin that spread across my face. My heart swelled at the unexpected sweetness of her question, and for a moment, I felt a burst of pure joy. It was such a simple, innocent question, but it filled me with happiness, like she'd seen something I hadn't fully accepted yet.
The way she asked so earnestly, it made my chest tighten in the best possible way. That had to be the sweetest thing anyone had ever asked me.
"Yes, I am" I looked up behind her to Harrison, who was walking back into the barn to get more Hay. "Did he catch you from heaven – Lily!!" the Farmer Brown interrupted.
"What!!" She asked shrugging her shoulders, with a cheeky smile. "Can I tell you something" I whispered to her. She smiled and nodded, stepping closer to me.
"If I run and leap at Harrison, he will most certainly catch me in his arms. Do you wanna see it?" I could hear the farmer giggle to himself.
She nodded her head vigorously with a huge smile as I stood up and watched Harrison carry hay. I started to run towards Harrison who was holding hay with both his arms. "Coming in!!" I yelled. He turned around and his eyes widen at me running towards him.
"NO!! I AM HOLDING HAY" he dropped it as I jumped in the air, wrapping my arms around his shoulders and my legs around his torso. He gripped my ass as he held me up. I could hear the girl behind us cheering.
"I want to be picked up. Me!! Me!!" Harrison and I giggled. Harrison put me down, looking at the little girl.
"I don't like little kids. I eat them for lunch. ROAR!!" Harrison chased Lily around the storage unit, as she screamed with joy running away from him.
