The Night of The Comet
┗━━━✦❘༻༺❘✦━━━┛With his head lowered towards the ground, Alfie silently walked out of the school building. He had a free period and he didn't feel like sitting in an empty, stuffy classroom.
The teen felt a little bit down-ridden that Stefan still had class and not a free lesson like himself, but he wasn't about to pull the vampire out of class just because he wanted to be near him. He wasn't that type of person.
After their shared kiss in the hallway, Alfie hadn't been able to wipe the smile from his face. His insides felt like jelly. Silently, Alfie brought his fingers to his lips, smiling even wider if that where even possible.
But then a thought hit. Would Stefan still want to be with me after I tell him the truth? After I tell him I'm not from this universe? Alfie shook his head. It was decided. I'll tel him tomorrow night. The night of the comet.
Walking aimlessly around the front of the school, the young teen saw a curtain someone walked around slowly with a slumped back. Sighing softly, Alfie walked over.
"Hey, man." He said softly, his hand on the teens shoulder, "How you holding up?" Matt looked up from the ground when he heard Alfie speaking to him. It was that rare of an occurrence that it had started him a little bit.
Matt smiled thankfully, Alfie was the first person to ask how he was instead of what happened. It was definitely a nice change. And to make it better, he wasn't giving him the same look everyone was. The stare of pity. He didn't want pity. He wanted his sister to be okay.
"I'm okay." Matt answered softly, his voice just above a whisper. "I just." Matt paused before shaking his head, "I just wish I could have stopped it, ya know. Instead of getting drunk with my friends, I should have been watching after her. It's my fault she's in that hospital bed right now. I promised to protect her, and I've failed."
Alfie's guise turned sympathetic, "No, Matt. Don't think like that. How where you supposed to know she'd get hurt. It could have happened to anyone last night. If it didn't happen to her, than it would have happened to someone else. It wasn't your fault, so don't put that burden on your shoulders. It is not a nice weight to carry."
Matt nodded his head, he didn't know why he had just spilled that to the boy. There was just something about him now that made him easy to talk to. Like he could say anything and he wouldn't be judged for it.
"Thank you." He whispered horsely. Alfie smiled softly, he knew what it was like to be the younger sibling and still try and look after the elder. There was this one time, his older brother called him asking to drop the car off. Alfie had been with his mates at the moment so he had ignored the call. It wasn't until he got a call from the hospital saying that his brother had survived a house fire but had gotten hurt in the process. Alfie blamed himself for that. He carried around the guilt of knowing that because he ignored one phone call, he nearly caused his brothers death. If he'd answered it and done as he was asked, it all could have been avoided.
