Grace Raine, I swear, every single time you tell that story it gets more confusing. And it makes mine way less interesting in comparison. How can you expect me to tell mine after that?
Well, you know what? I'm going to tell my story. And it'll be even better than yours.
Since Grace went first, I'll skip most of the drama in the waiting room. Not that there was much to say about it anyways.
When my name was blared overhead, I inwardly froze. Since I had to be brave for Grace Raine's sake, I calmed myself down before I gave her a last squeeze on her hand. Filled with nerves, I walked to room four, my feet being as heavy as lead in each step.
As soon as I walked into room four, I wrinkled my nose. On the chair in the centre of the room, on the silver table next to the chair, on the mirrored walls, wherever you looked, there was blood. And it was fresh.
After coming to terms with the bizarre landscape, I noticed a woman, who was obviously from Hedonism, pacing about the room nervously.
"Where are the damn shadowhunters now?" she said to herself, as she didn't hear my entrance.
I coughed awkwardly.
The woman turned her head to look at me."Oh now you're here," she said, taking in the runes littering my exposed skin.
"Ummm... No," I replied, uncertain. "I'm not here for this obvious Downworlder attack. I'm here for my Test. They said to come here..." I said, pointing up at the ceiling when I said my last sentence.
"Oh, alright," the woman sighed. "I'm Jade, obviously not from Aquatica. I came in here to check on him... And this." She didn't finish her sentence, but I got her point.
I nodded my head knowingly. "It's happened to me plenty of times."
Jade's eyes saddened like she understood. "Well, I guess I can monitor your Test and clean this place up, if that's okay for you."
I shrugged. "I guess. But there's no way I'm sitting in a chair covered in blood."
Jade laughed. "Fair enough." She then pulled a rag seemingly from nowhere and commenced wiping up the blood. When the chair was perfectly clean, she gestured at me to sit.
I did.
I sat in the uncomfortable blue leather chair and stared at the mirrored ceiling. In the reflection, I saw Jade filling up a needle with some liquid.
"What's that?" I asked, not looking away from the ceiling.
"Your Test," Jade replied.
"What?" I looked down at Jade then.
"Nothing," she said with a smile.
My shadowhunter instinct tuned in instantly, but Jade had already stuck the needle in my neck.
I blacked out.
I woke up not long after, but I was no longer in the testing room.
Jade was nowhere to be seen.
I looked around. After scanning the room for a minute, I realized I was in a mall. The smell of food was overpowering. All around the food court, couples, families, and the occasional loner, were sitting at tables, eating and talking.
Finally, I looked across from me. Grace Raine was passed out on the table, drool puddling by her mouth.
"Grace Raine?" I asked, my voice laced with concern.
