Grace
At first, when Magnus said Catarina was gone, I thought he was joking. When I looked around, however, there was no sign of the blue skinned warlock.
"How do we just lose a warlock?" I asked incredulously.
Dayton shrugged.
"Let's not jump to conclusions," Riley said.
"Well, Catarina's not here. She didn't tell us she was leaving. What conclusions are we jumping to? It's right there," Dayton replied.
Riley threw his hands up in mock surrender. "I'm not sorry for being an optimist. I just don't think it makes sense that she'd just wander off."
Dayton scoffed as Magnus ran a hand through his spiky mess of hair. "No, I think Riley's right," Magnus sighed. "It's not like Catarina to just wander off. I've known her for centuries, and she was the most well behaved out of the three of us."
"The three of us?" I asked confused.
Magnus blinked as if he had just realized what he said. His normally cheery expression turned to a sad one. "There were three of us. Once." Under his breath, he added, "I'd do anything to have him back." I sensed that I wasn't supposed to have heard that, but I have werewolf hearing; it's not like I can pick and choose what I can hear. Shit, if I wasn't supposed to hear it, I suppose no one was, and now all y'all know what he said. Magnus'll have my head if he hears about this.
Alright, where was I? Magnus talking, missing Catarina, the third person... Oh right!
"Grace Raine?" Riley asked.
"What?"
"Were you listening?" Dayton asked with a smug expression.
"I have the right to keep that confidential," I said as serious as I could muster. Magnus broke into laughter and threw his arm on my shoulder.
"Well, I asked if Dayton or Riley had seen Catarina acting strangely when she came since they came through the portal a little before us," Magnus said.
"And?" I snapped.
Riley looked from where Magnus was and then to me. Then he responded, maybe a little annoyed. "I said I hadn't seen anything and neither had Dayton."
"Then," Dayton interjected, "I asked if you could shift and find her. Riley started arguing for you, and then we realized you were paying zero attention."
As I processed what Dayton had said, I took Magnus' arm off of my shoulders and side-stepped a little bit. "Oh," I sighed quietly. "I can shift if y'all think it'll help-"
"Grace Raine, you don't have to."
"And you don't have to be so goddamn protective," I snapped without thinking. Instantly, I regretted it.
"Fine, do what you want!" Riley threw his hands in the air. "Get killed for all I care!" He then started to storm off.
"Riley, wait," I pleaded. Riley didn't stop. "Riley Jonathan Fairchild, stop walking and turn around to face me, you goddamned idiot!" Riley didn't stop walking.
"Where the hell's he going? It's not like he knows the way around here."
I went up to Dayton and slapped his face.
"I take it that you've never gotten into a fight before?" I was tempted to slap the smirk off of his face, again, but I decided against it.
"We've never had anything to fight about," I sighed.
