"So, we're just gonna ignore the fact that someone with a staff and funny clothes just marched in here, cleared Grace's vision and left?" Dayton snapped after a few moments.
"What else is there to do?" I snapped back. I don't know what Dayton's problem was, but he was really pressing my buttons.
"Will you-?"
I'd like to say what I said, actually.
Oh, don't give me that look, Riley.
But it's my turn-
But you stole mine.
You were crying-
Don't care. You stole my turn. Now go stand guard by the door.
Fine. You win, once again, Grace Raine.
Yes, I do; now shut up.
Alright, sorry for that. I decided I wanted to tell this part of the story.
Where were we? Oh, right.
"Will you two stop bickering?! You're acting like five-year-olds! Evidently, Hermes knows my mom; that's all we're going to get 'till we meet him again. Maybe we'll never see him again, and that'll suck, but that's not in our hands. There's no damn reason y'all should be fighting. We have two days to get to Denver. Dayton, start leading the way."
Dayton and Riley both stared at me like I had four heads.
"What?" I snapped.
Dayton shook his head. "Nothing. Let's get going, shall we?"
"We shall." Riley hooked his arm through mine, but I shoved him away. His face fell a little, but he said nothing.
I shifted into my wolf. Dayton stared at me quizzically, but he also said nothing. He began walking to our right.
Are you sure it was east, Riley? Okay, fine!
Oh, so now it's my fault I don't have a sense of direction? Whatever!
Since Riley's not gonna let this go, Dayton began walking east.
You happy now? Good.
I trotted next to Riley for a good fifteen minutes before he said anything.
"You okay?" he whispered.
I whined a little, despite my best attempts.
Riley scratched my head. "I'm sorry. Wanna talk about your dream?"
I put my head down. He left me alone.
Left in my thoughts, I wondered what we'd face in the Republic. I also thought about Hermes. He was dressed like something I'd never seen before. Also, he had an accent that I couldn't quite place.
"Grace Raine? We're at the border of Nine and Thirteen." Riley's voice snapped me out of my mind palace that I was in for who knows how long.
I gave Riley a look- something I'm quite proud of, since I was a wolf and all.
He sighed dramatically. "Fine. Dayton, turn around."
"Why?"
"She doesn't like to shift when others are watching!"
"But she shifted right in front of me after the race!" Riley grabbed Dayton's shoulders and spun him around so they both had their backs to me.
"That's 'cause I was extremely pissed that I had lost a foot race to a mundie. As a wolf," I growled as I stretched my arms.
