Grace

Alright, you're probably giving me crap at being "unnecessarily" mad at Riley, right? Well, I don't care. I was pissed. How dare he tell my dad something that I needed to tell him? Sure, I probably should've told Dad before Choosing Day, but I had a lot on my plate.

During the Ceremony, I didn't feel like talking to Riley. Not one bit. I didn't feel like talking to him afterward either.

While everyone was getting up to leave, I spotted a guy my age. He was taller than me- no surprise there- and had dark brown hair and gray eyes. He seemed to be overwhelmed; even though this was his faction and he didn't transfer.

He noticed me looking at him and walked over to me. "Hey," he said, inclining his hand. "I'm Grayson."

I shook his hand shyly. "Grace," I said quietly.

"What's wrong?" he asked, concern in his eyes. I looked at him in bewilderment. "I'm good at reading people, that's all." he shrugged.

I sighed. "I'm just pissed at my friend," I dragged the word friend out. "He kinda told my dad something I wanted to tell him myself."

"Well, why didn't you?"

Yep, this was actually happening. A person I had just met was criticizing my decisions. Strangely, it didn't feel awkward. Call me crazy, but I felt like I had a tight bond with Grayson.

Instead of actually answering Grayson's question, I looked behind me. Riley was talking animatedly to someone, but the person was behind someone else who was much taller than me.

"Dammit," I muttered under my breath, looking forward once again.

"What?" Grayson asked, looking back.

"Nothing. Just wanted to my friend, only he's talking to someone else," I grumbled.

"You mean the red-head talking to Dayton?"

"Talking to who?" I said as I whipped my head back to see Riley talking with a guy maybe a year older with hair like the sun. I mentally groaned. Riley always seems to make friends with the mundies.

I then realized that my parabatai and voyance rune were in plain sight. Strangely, Grayson hadn't mentioned them. I was about to ask him about them, but before I could, everyone said 'woah'. I looked around the tall people in front of me to see a cliff with at least a four hundred foot drop.

"What's that?" I asked Grayson wearily.

"Dauntless compound," Grayson whispered back. "The transfers have to jump down there to even arrive. Most people haven't seen it before. Well, most people of Twelve haven't anyways."

"Why's that?"

Grayson looked at me like I was a toddler. "Anthracite is on the other side of the Republic. We're right next to the border with the Patriots."

"Great," I muttered under my breath.

"Honestly, what did they teach at the schools in Shorthorn?"

I coughed awkwardly. "Well, uh..." I was saved from an explanation when an eighteen-year-old yelled at us four to hurry up.

"The four of us...?" I then looked behind Grayson and me to see Riley and Dayton. Dayton gave a mock salute. I rolled my eyes.

"I think someone wants to talk to you," Grayson whispered in my ear.

"Yeah, yeah," I said, shoving him forward. "I'll catch up."

Grayson smiled and ran to catch up to the herd of Anthracites.

I sighed and walked to Riley. Dayton waved his hand awkwardly and ran up to Grayson.

"So?" I said annoyed.

Riley laughed as he started walking at a leisurely pace; after all, we did need to catch up with everyone. "Always so impatient." He grew serious then. "Alright, I'm sorry. I really am. I didn't know what to do. I didn't even know that you hadn't told him. I told Mom. I just... figured; ya know? I panicked and Mom understood." He hung his head. "I really am sorry."

I give him a side hug. "I know. I just wanted to hear you say that."

He punched me in the arm playfully. "You really are a witch sometimes."

"And you are childish all the time, Mr. Idon'tcuss." Riley rolled his eyes. "So," I said, changing the subject, "we should probably catch up with Dayton and Grayson."

Riley nodded, then laughed. "How is it that we just made two very mundane friends?"

"Don't know," I yelled back at him as I ran to catch up with the boys. Riley ran after me and we didn't look back.

A/N from December 7th, 2015: I realize this chapter is riddikulusly short, and I apologize for that. I'm currently trying to make everything grammatically correct first, so please forgive me. I promise I will make this at least 2,500 words when I get the time.

Apologies,
