Dayton
Okay, I know what you're thinking: Oh no, there's a narrator that hasn't narrated this entire time, that means something bad is going to happen to one of the main characters, right? Well, you're wrong. Completely and utterly wrong.
Long story short: Grace is an idiot. Her and Riley are taking care of the mess she made, and I had to stay here for some reason. Since they're convinced we'll all be killed soon, I had to continue the story. I like it as much as you do; unless you're liking my storytelling I haven't started yet. Then, I hate it.
Well, Grace almost just threw a knife at my head. May I remind you that you're supposed to be saving us?
Alright fine. You didn't have to be so wordy. I hope the mic didn't pick that up.
Okay... so where did Riley leave off? We were walking, a forest appeared, the coin was freaking out, we got closer... Right!
"It can't be," Riley gasped.
"It's twenty yards away," I pointed out. "It can hear you."
"It doesn't appreciate you talking about him," the person growled as he walked closer to us.
"Nobody asked your opinion, you filthy little traitor!" Grace snapped.
"Traitor is a little bit extreme, don't you think?"
"If she thought it was extreme, she wouldn't have used it, would she?" Riley snapped back.
"I wasn't talking to you, Riley. Why the hell would I care about a shadowhunter's opinion?"
"Maybe because I could get you killed for treason-"
"Again, I wasn't talking to you. I believe Grace can answer for herself," he looked at Grace. "Unless I underestimated her," he added with a smirk.
"Glad to see your face permanently shows that you're an asshole who can't be trusted," Grace snapped in response.
"Does it say that, Grace? I'd like to think it shows that I fought bravely."
I scoffed. "The only thing you fought bravely was your ego. Oh wait, I guess you lost, because it's still there!"
"Watch it, Dayton! Just because I spared you before doesn't mean I'll do it again."
"Oh, am I supposed to thank you? From what I see, you didn't spare me from anything."
"And what's that you see, mundane? That you're a freak of nature who I saved from being enslaved or killed?"
I snorted. "In your dreams. What I see is a person who I falsely gave my trust to. A person who took the little things I actually cared about away."
"Is this still my dream?" Riley said so it so quiet, I could barely hear.
"I hope not," I whispered back.
"Dreams? What dreams?"
"Like we'd tell you. Who knows what you did to the Praetor Lu-," Grace snapped.
"Who knows what I did?" he interrupted. "Let's think, shall we, Grace? Of the people here, who knows why I'm here? Me. Of the people here, who knows what I did-?"
"Me," Grace growled. "Or did you forget what you told me, Derek?" she added when he had a look of pure shock. "It's the reason you have those scars on your face. Don't you remember?" she said, pretending to be hurt.
I admit, I have no idea what she was talking about. Sure, I was there when she slapped him, but I figured it was because he tried to hit on her or something. I tried my best to not look completely confused.
