Fíli marched through the gates of Erebor, dressed in full armor and with a small arsenal of weapons hidden on him, the pre-battle adrenaline already rushing through his veins.

He joined his brother and Dwalin who were gathering the warriors outside the gate, explaining their strategy so they wouldn't lose time upon arrival.

The Kingdom of Dale had asked for reinforcements, to help fight against the rise of Orcs and Wargs in the area. Their numbers had decreased immensely, but now, years after the great battle, there were still small packs wandering around and in the last few weeks, they seem to linger around Dale and Esgaroth, making it unsafe for the citizens to go outside of the city walls.

Fíli couldn't wait to go out there and take care of the problem. It had been too long since he had been in a real fight, training with his brother just wasn't the same.

He let his eyes roam over the warriors, pleased to see a lot of familiar faces among them. The loyalty of Dwarves was legendary and he felt proud to lead such a devoted army, how small the group may be. They didn't need large numbers for this.

One soldier caught his attention when they turned their head the second Fíli walked by them. He turned around to take a closer look, confused by their actions.

When he realized who was standing in front of him, his eyes narrowed and he clenched his teeth together.

"Mimûna?" (little one)

You cursed inwardly. It was foolish of you to think he wouldn't recognize you, but could they really blame you for hoping you could get away with it?

"Prince Fíli," you greeted him, as if he wasn't your lifelong friend and companion.

"You shouldn't be here," he said, obviously annoyed with you.

Before you could reply, he grabbed your upper arm and steered you away from the group of soldiers, determined to get you inside the mountain again where he didn't have to worry about your safety.

But you had expected this reaction out of him, Fíli was known to be protective over you after all, and you tore your arm out of his grasp.

"No, I want to help! I can fight!" you protested.

There was no way you were going to be left behind, not knowing if Fíli - and Kíli too, no matter how annoying and meddlesome he could be, you adored the youngest prince - was alright, not knowing if he was even going to return to you.

"I know you can fight. Trust me, I know. But this is real, mimûna. I'm not going to put you in danger if I can help it."

He placed his hand under your chin and when your eyes met, he let his thumb caress your cheek. "I don't want to constantly worry about your safety, not knowing if you're alright."

"Great, that makes two of us," you retorted, crossing your arms over your chest and when you saw Fíli's eyes widen in understanding you knew you had won your private battle.

"Don't worry brother, I'll keep an eye on them," Kíli said, patting his shoulder. Of course he had listened in on their conversation...

His brother guided you back towards the front row before Fíli could stop him.

"Great, now there's two of you I need to look out for."

Fíli rolled his eyes when he turned around and motioned Dwalin to start the trek to Dale, hoping he could at least win that fight.
