Steve could notice how distant Olivia was with him. After everything that had happened in the last couple of weeks.
Olivia's father and stepmother died. She became Max's new legal guardian, and she was thinking of selling the house.
She had a lot on her mind, but Steve wanted to help her by getting her distracted for at least a day or two to think of something else.
At the age of 18, she had to make so many hard choices.
So before Olivia started her last year of High School, Steve planned a small road trip just the two of them.
He had asked his only friend his age Robin to give him ideas of where to go. She excitedly agreed to help him but what he didn't expect was for Robin to invite herself on the trip as well.
Maybe the trip with the three of them wouldn't be so bad. Three friends traveling across the State that could be memorable.
He didn't argue and told Olivia about his plan. She thought it was a great idea and that it would be fun.
She wanted to see something new and thought it would be a good idea to invite Max.
The young girl had been very quiet and wouldn't leave her room.
Olivia didn't want to leave her alone in the house; she knew Billy couldn't be trusted looking out for Max while she was gone.
Steve said sure why not, but Max didn't want to go.
She thought the whole idea was stupid; she only agree if she could invite Lucas.
So there Steve stood with his arms crossed outside of Olivia's house, watching Robin carry a bunch of chip bags for the road; as one of them fell, hitting the ground, she tried to pick it up, but another fell. He shook his head and laughed at his friend.
Lucas' parents had dropped him off just a few minutes ago, and Olivia and Max were arguing about what's the best way to pack their things in the trunk of his car.
The trip wasn't even going to be that long, but somehow everyone had packed two suitcases.
His suitcases were necessary since he had all his hair products; he didn't know why the others packed too much.
The alone time that Steve wanted with his girlfriend turned out to be a weird, somewhat of a family vacation, if he could even call it that.
He clapped his hands, getting everyone's attention. "Everyone inside. We are wasting precious time."
Robin struggled to open the backseat door as she was still holding the bag of chips. Once she got the car door opened, she threw the chips in, almost tripping as she got in.
"You're sitting in the middle," Max said as she opened the other door.
"Why am I sitting in the middle," Lucas argued. "Because I don't want to," Max responded, gesturing to Lucas to go inside. Lucas mumbled something under his breath and got in.
Not even five minutes in, Steve heard Robin opening
one bag of chips. She brought a handful of chips into her mouth a few crumbs dropped to her lap. She cleaned them off her lap and threw them on the floor.
"Robin, I just cleaned the car," Steve complained, looking at Robin through the rearview mirror.
"Sorry," she mumbled as some crumbs fell off her lips.
She smiled at him, "Give me some," Steve said, holding his left hand toward the back seat and holding the steering wheel with his other hand. Robin whined, not wanting to share with Steve.
