Sit With Me!

Cat's Age: 17

Matilda's Age: 16
Valerie's Age: 10
Josie's Age: 13
Penney's Age: 13
Keira's Age: 15
(I apologize if my math is wrong. Also, in this AU, none of the kids know each other but Josie and Cat)

Valerie's POV

"Come on, Valerie. It's just the school bus, it's not that bad. Maybe you'll make a friend or two!" George said. I started crying a little and said, "But Daddy, I want you to drive me to school!"

"I know, sweetie pie, but I'll be there to pick you up after school!" George said, handing me my backpack. "And you know Will's kid? Keira?"

"Yeah?" I said in a small voice. I didn't know Keira well, I had only met her once or twice, but she seemed nice.

"I think they're gonna be on your bus. I'm not sure if she's at your same bus stop, but you could maybe sit with them!" George said. I nodded slowly and George said, "Come on, the bus will be here in 20 minutes and I have to drive you to your stop."

I was at the bus stop, and I knew nobody there. I was clinging to George, and what he didn't know was that I had my stuffed frog in my backpack. That way, if no one wanted to sit with me, I would have Froggy to keep me company.

The bus roared to a stop in front of us and I sat down. George waved to me as I got on and I realized there were a few kids already there.

The bus headed to another stop and two kids got on. An tall, auburn-haired girl with thick black glasses and a girl with blonde hair in two braids. They sat in seats across from one another and started talking. 

At the next stop, a girl with poofy red hair ran on the bus and said, "CATLYNN! Can I sit with you?"

"Sure, Josie!" the girl, Catlynn, said. Another girl came on the bus right after the redhead, and I realized it was Keira. But Keira didn't even notice me, and sat right next to the blonde girl.

I took out Froggy and started crying into my knees. I was hoping someone would be nice enough to sit by me. Guess I was completely wrong, then.

"Hey." someone said after a few minutes. I looked up and it was a girl with olive skin, huge glasses, and a high ponytail.

"Can I sit here?" the girl asked. I nodded and moved my bag over to make room for her. The girl grinned and sat down next to me. "I'm Penney, what's your name?"

"V-Valerie..." I stuttered. Penney smiled and said, "Don't worry, I know how it feels. In elementary school, no one would want to sit with me on the bus. I just didn't want someone else to feel the same way I did." Penney looked at my backpack and said, "Do you like musical theatre?"

"Kind of...my family works on Broadway." I said.

"Mine does too!"

"So does mine! Well, they did. Off-Broadway. But still!" the Catlynn girl said. "I'm Cat."

"Mine does too! I'm Matilda!"

"I'm Keira, agender, will fight you."

"I'm Josie!"

"I-I'm Val." I said. I looked around at all the kids. They were just like me!

Maybe the bus wouldn't be so bad after all.
