Catlynn's POV

"You're gonna crush Student Council elections, Sunshine. What is this, your third year on office?" Elle asked as she made me breakfast.

"Yeah, that sounds about right. And Astrid told me that I'm probably running unopposed this year, I'm so excited! Jess helped me make the posters and everything this year!"

"But keep in mind, your new school has one student council for 5th through 12th grades. You wrote your speech?"

"Yeah, Ryan and Evan helped me. I gotta go, Mom, the bus will be here any minute." I gave my mom a hug and said, "Bye, love you!"

"Bye, Sunshine!"

_________

Josie's POV

"I think I'm going to run for Student Council this year, Mama." I said.

Stephanie set down her coffee and looked at me. "Are you sure, Josie? You're a fifth grader...you'll probably be running against high schoolers."

"I don't care. I'm a good leader and I want to make a difference. Now, do we have poster board? Andrew wanted to know if I could go over to his place after school and make posters."

"I'm fine with that, just make sure you're back in time for dance, okay?"

"Mama, Uncle Andy takes me to dance, you know this."

"True. Anyway, have a good day at school! I love you!"

"Bye!"

_________

Catlynn's POV

"You are not running unopposed." Shirley said.

"Shirley, I can see the name on the list. How do I know that name?" I said.

"CATLYNN!" a small voice said from behind me. I turned around and a very short girl with a curly poof of red hair was standing in front of me.

Josephine Block.

I've met Josie before. We do dance together, she's moved up a few levels in hip hop so we're in the same class. I just didn't expect for her to go to my school.

I checked the list of candidates one more time, I only looked at the list long enough to see there was another person running and didn't pay attention to who it was.

I looked at the list and then stepped back in horror.

My opponent was Josie?!

________

Josie's POV

"I hate elections." I said, storming into Andrew's apartment after school.

"What's wrong, Sprout? I thought you were pumped for Friday!" He smiled at me and said, "I bought neon markers..."

"Not in the mood."

"Josie, talk to me. What's wrong?"

"I'll tell you what's wrong! One of my best friends is running against me! And she's 5 years older than me!" I screamed.

"Josie. Listen to me. I don't care who this person is-"

"It's Catlynn McLemore. You know, the girl from dance I'm friends with?" I said.

"Shoot. Anyway, just try to be nice to her. She may be your competition, but that doesn't mean you have to be rude to her."

"You're right."

_______

Catlynn's POV

"And so, as Vice President, I vow to..."

It was only then I noticed Josie sitting in the bleachers, playing with the strings of her Falsettos hoodie and looking sad and nervous.

Truth be told, I wanted Josie to win. She was smart and a good leader, she would be a good Vice President.

I took a deep breath, and knew what I had to do.

"As last year's Vice President, I think I have to give someone else a chance for the title. And I know the perfect person to have it. Josephine Block, the floor is yours."

"WHAT?!" Josie screamed. She ran up to the stage and hugged the life out of me. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

"You're welcome, kid, now go be the best Vice President Eisenhower High has ever seen."
