Josie's POV

"Come on! We have to go get ready! Stop dillydallying!" I said, tugging on Penney Steingold's hand. She sighed and swatted my arm away. "You're smarter than this, Josie, you know damn well I'm stalling because I don't want to do this!"

"You should've told me this in September, but okay. The show opens tonight, and we have to get to the theater before 5:30." Penney groaned and I giggled, shoving her in the backseat of Mama's car.

"Let's go!"

I was putting on my pointe shoes and getting ready when my mom went up to me. "Hi Mama!"

"Hey, little Trina, you excited?"

"To be in this? Yeah, these shows make the 10 hour rehearsals worth it. Am I excited that you're gonna be in it with me since half of the kids that would normally be in this dropped out? Not particularly..." I said.

"Hey!" my mama said, tickling my stomach. I swatted her hand away, out of breath from laughing. "Am I that embarrassing?"

"Yeah, you kind of are." I said. Catlynn McLemore ran up to me and I gave her a hug. "Are you ready?" I asked.

"Ready as ever. I love ballet, but if we're being real? I just want to go home. I'm exhausted." Catlynn said. I laughed and then Penney Steingold sat down next to us. "At least you two don't have to dance with splints on your legs, a brace on your entire left arm, and a tube hanging out of your stomach. And I'm literally Drosselmeyer."

"I'm Clara, what else is new?" I said. I laughed and said, "Remember when we volunteered all our parents to play Party Parents? And then the director was like 'Oh, we have a cast of 20 people, your parents are actually gonna dance with you.' Like, what?"

"I think the only person that isn't scared of embarrassment is Valerie. She's such a daddy's girl, and I don't mean that in a rude way." Penney said. "I volunteered my brother for this."

"Oh my God, if I volunteered Evan..." Cat said. "I don't know which is worse: him embarrassing me from the audience or him embarrassing me on stage."

"I have to pick Josie up, and I'm not strong enough for that." Penney said.

"I can pick my mama up! Hey, Mama, come here!" I yelled. Stephanie walked over to us and I scooped her up. "HA!"

"Josie?! What? Put me down!" I started laughing and then dropped my mama on the floor. "See?"

Clementine London Mack and Valerie Salazar-Roland came over to us and sat down, Clementine kicking her feet. "Hi!" Clem said in her adorable Brazilian accent. I loved that Clem and Val were best friends, they were both adorable little girls with accents.

"Hey, you excited?" I asked. Clem giggled and said, "I wanted the Spanish dance."

"FOR THE LAST TIME!" Brittney, Clem's mom, said from the corner. "You're Brazilian, not Spanish!"

"Mom's been on my case about that for months."

We all laughed and then I checked the time. "Girls? It's showtime."
