Veira's POV
"Kids, as I hope you know, Mama's birthday is coming up, and to celebrate, we're having a big dinner with all your aunties, uncles, and cousins!" Mom said.
"Isn't that like, 50 people?" my brother Levi asked with a smirk. Eleanor rolled her eyes and said, "It's more like 20, stop exaggerating things, Levi."
"Huh? I- we have way more than twenty cousins. Remember the last time we had a family reunion? It was a freaking zoo."
"That's because we literally took the kids to the zoo..." Eleanor said. "Remember when Mom dropped her sunglasses in the elephant enclosure? And it was a chaotic mess to try to get them back?"
"OKAY THIS ISN'T ABOUT MOM!" I said. "Okay, which one of us has the best memory and is decent at math?"
"Veira!" Eleanor and Levi said at the same time.
"What? Why me?" I said. My siblings started cackling.
"You are the oldest." Levi said. I sighed and said, "Yeah, but I have the memory of a goldfish."
"Oh my God." Eleanor said. "Okay, someone count our aunts, uncles, and cousins on their fingers, please."
"Okay, so, aunts. Auntie Jess, Aunt Katie, Auntie Alice, Aunt Barrett...uh..." I said.
"JOSIE AND HARPER!" Levi yelled.
"Sheesh! I didn't forget about them! Okay, so Josie and Harper...who am I missing? Oh! Mal!"
"You forgot Shirley and Cesca." Eleanor said. "We literally went to their wedding last month."
"I'll do the counting this time cause it's obvious Veira doesn't know crap. Uncles. Okay. Axel, Jon, Alex."
"Evan..." Eleanor and I said at the same time.
"You're literally named after him, Levi. Your middle name is Evan."
Levi rolled his eyes and said, "I'm passing it over to Eleanor, and Eleanor Astrid McLemore-Ashley, you have the responsibility of naming our cousins and answering the question that got us into this argument in the first place. Do you accept?"
"Levi Evan McLemore-Ashley, I hereby accept. Here goes. Acadia! Anna! Georgia! Ruth! Roxanne! And...that's it?"
"You forgot Chrissy." I pointed out.
"DAMMIT! Chrissy!" Eleanor said. "And that comes to a grand total of...six?"
"We have six cousins."
"Wow, I was way off." Levi said.
"That means Eleanor won the bet!" I said.
"Hold up- this was a bet?" Levi said.
"Yep. Pay up, Levi."
