( Y/N POV )

"We can't do that! Even if it is only a last resort we all know what will happen, from what we have heard he is all but feral now. For gods sake, Quin? Come on back me up here" I listened as everyone continued to argue, no one even seeming to notice I was here anymore. Kimberly had taken it on herself to be my human voice of reason, as a mate with children and like me she had to be. I couldn't help the sigh that left me as I lent back in my fur covered seat, my back was hurting and I couldn't stretch to help it with my stomach so large now. I ran my hand over my large bump and smiled absently, it had been so nice since I was brought here and I was now excited to meet my babies. White had confirmed I was having two, but she seemed to think they weren't twins for some reason. She could be right, it wasn't unheard of to have two babies that were not twins at once as rare as it was. My smile fell as I let myself listen in to the continued arguments around me. My time was running out where I could stay here, that was what started this when White announced she thought I could give birth anytime in the next couple of weeks. Karn was already snapping under the separating from what we had heard. My skin pricked in fear remembering the stories Mai, Kirin and even Berry... poor little Berry had told me. Karn had been torturing others who crossed him, simple punishments turning into near death sentences unless others stepped in. Or at least that was what I had been told. I had wanted it to be lies, but apparently Creek had been reporting to his siblings acting as a spy to make sure Karn couldn't sneak his way here. I had been trying to listen in to the reports to begin with, but now I tried to avoid the siblings when they met with Creek. I could feel my stomach churning now thinking about the things I had heard Karn had done.

I almost jumped out of my skin feeling a hand on my shoulder, turning to look up I found Quin looking down at me. His eyes were gentler than most males I had met, and since he and Kimberly came here we became good friends. "Maybe you should go to rest now Y/N, I can see you are uncomfortable. Your young being more demanding on your body of late" Smiling softly up at his concerned tone I shook my head, looking back over to where everyone seemed oblivious to us. "Thank you Quin but I think I need to stay, at least until we can agree on at least one thing" Looking back up I found the male above me looking thoughtful, he normally calm face scrunched into a torn one. Worried I put my hand on his squeezing it. "Quin?" He blinked down at me still seeming in though before turning away, heading to be closer to the center of the ground. I watched him go his coils causing a low thrum of noise making the group go quiet. I still wondered how he did that. Quin could move his coils to make noise yet he had no features that looked like a rattle snake. Shaking away the errand thought I sat up, watching as everyone turned to him. "I think it is time we call in the high lord, he resides by the sea but if we send out the call now he could arrive in days" High Lord? I hadn't heard anyone say that before, and by the look of the faces around me it meant something big. Kirin who had been coiled close to me silently watching, the ever present voice of reason and only female from Karn's territory who dared to attend the meeting spoke out. Her voice almost timid, something I had never heard from her even in the face of Karn's worst rage. "Even should he heed the call... that male is unpredictable" Looking between the faces around me I found all the females in the room looking just as apprehensive, while the males all looked solemn like they were about to go to war. Unable to stop myself I asked the question. "Who is the High Lord?"

White slowly licked her lips, her longer tongue flickering oddly as if she was nervous before he spoke. Her voice was even but just like Kirin's there was something inside it I hadn't heard before. "The High Lord is the male who controls all others, he is the deadliest of our kind and is only called upon when there is no other choice" Frowning I tried my best to sit forward, putting a hand on my swollen stomach helped but it was difficult still. "Then wouldn't it be a good thing to call him? I mean if Karn is unstable as everyone is saying he needs to be stopped" I knew I sounded a little desperate but I couldn't help it. Not only could this free me from Karn but it would mean everyone would be safe from his rage again. I felt a hand on my arm pulling my attention from White, looking over Kimberly was there. Her face seemed reluctant as if she was about to give me horrible news... what weren't they telling me? "Y/N I know it seems like a good option but you have to understand this particular Lord is- well he is like the deadliest of snakes. No one calls him because of how he punishes others" Looking from Kimberly to the others I found them all suddenly pale turning from me. "Y/N..." I turned back. "He eats those he is called to deal with. Cannibalism is the ultimate punishment for them, and only the High Lord carries it out. If we call him and he doesn't think we had a right to, he will punish the person calling him" Understanding hit like a bullet. I knew some snakes ate their own kind in the wild, but it wasn't many or at least I hadn't though it was. Looking around I looked back up to Quin, he had been the one who suggested it. He didn't seem to want to take back the words even if he took looked grim. Running a hand over my stomach I looked down at the skin as it moved under my touch. My children were most active when I was upset or afraid, it was almost like they were trying to comfort me.
