( AUTHOR POV )

With a cry the blade sunk into the reptiles skull as Creek pulled his tail free of the river. The animal had caught him by surprise as he batted away the rest of Karn's pets, sinking its jaws into his tail and leaving a deep but not fatal gash along the broken and torn scales. Throwing the dead animal aside now sure it was completely lifeless, watching as the water rushed its carcass away Creek hissed. Looking over his tail he knew even if he wrapped it the blood would leave a trail. Looking around and snatching the largest leaves and vines he could Creek began binding the broken flesh until he wanted to cry out at the self inflicted pain, pushing himself to the limit he could withstand. He had to try and limit the blood that leaked, buying as much time as he could. Taking the river had been meant to keep him from being followed for as long as possible, giving Creek time to help the others prepare for the coming fight they all knew would happen now the storm had passed. Frowning looking at the water where Creek knew more eyes were watching him, he understood why they had been there now. Usually Karn's pets did not travel so far from the parts of the river they claimed as home, so it took little imagination to know they had been sent to draw blood. Looking down at the still bleed mass of muscle and scales Creek knew Karn had what he had aimed for. A trail that he could finally follow to get to Y/N.

Turning taking in the trees and earth around him Creek took off in the direction furthest from the den Y/N was safely inside. If Karn was going to try and use his blood to find him Creek planned to make it as difficult as possible for him, even if it meant bleeding out far more than was safe for a male of his size. Luckily he had made sure to take the longest route he could before risking swimming up the river so he had a head start. That gave him time to make a decoy path and then head to the den, White would see to his wounds as they prepared for the worst. Looking back at his coils as Creek began to turn for the den he scowled seeing the dark red liquid coating his scales, dripping a small trail over the greenery behind him. Most would struggle to follow the path he had taken to prevent most of the blood from being visible, but Lord Karn was far from being at the skill level of most. Heading towards the den spotting the pale twins at the entrance, their noses moving as they turned to look their approaching sibling Creek allowing them to support him as he stopped. He had lost more blood than was safe to buy them more time but he prayed it would be worth the sacrifice. "Creek what happ-" Creek shook his head with a hiss cutting off his sister pushing himself up, encouraging the two to help him inside silently. He sighed with relief when they instantly followed to do just that. "No time for that, gather everyone quickly and tell White I need my tail seeing to. We don't have much time" It was not missed how the two shared a look before one slid away to do as he was told, leaving Creek and Pearl to head to the large meeting room.

White was the first to arrive. Creek met her eyes with silence and she asked no questions, moving to shoo away her sibling to reach Creek's coils, ignoring his pained hiss as her eyes took in the damage. Others began to enter as White worked, but Creek paid none any attention until slow footsteps reached his ears. Creek finally looked up taking in Y/N as Lord Bela helped her inside, his tail steadying her arms as they supported to sleeping forms. This was the first time Creek himself had a good look at Y/N's young, each visit before he had not stayed long and always kept his distance. But seeming them now he felt relief. Despite their colouring and obvious non human blood it seemed the young males took after their mother. When Y/N gasped Creek tried to offer her a reassuring smile, but as White began closing a particularly jagged bite it failed as a pain left him clenching his jaw. Looking around seeing everyone was now here Creek looked up, knowing White would listen as she worked on his wounds. "We need to change our plans, Lord Karn set a trap with his pets so he must have known I'd cross the river. I made it as hard as I could for him to follow but it will only buy us a few hours at most" Every face fell into a mixture of anxiety and fear, that was all but one. Bela's features hardened as he lowered himself behind Y/N's form, offering her support as she clutched her sons closer to her chest. It was not missed by all inside the room how Y/N allowed herself to sit on his coils, or how her body relaxed even the smallest amount at his reassuring touch.
